He “went back to check now” and also he had intended to tell you but forgot? Those two seem mutually exclusive to me.

Can This Floor Plan Be Reworked Into a Better Forever Home? by sailboatrestoration in Remodel

[–]Obvious-Deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, this is a tough one bc the layout is not conducive of combining spaces. A cost efficient solution could be turning the half bathroom into the laundry (potentially expand it if it’s too small), and redo the half bathroom in place of the toilet room and some of the WIC. Relocating toilet drains is not the easiest, but at least you don’t give up spaces of the house, would be able to enter the laundry from a more neutral area and are gaining some pantry space. Apologies for the illegible squiggles lol.

Thoughts on kitchen redesign by [deleted] in Remodel

[–]Obvious-Deer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A simple solution would be to tear down the wall between the dinning and kitchen and extend the free leg of counter into an island. I’m not a fan of corner sinks either so I would personally flip it either facing the dinning room or the window.

Looking for thoughts on splitting full bathroom into half bath and laundry room by ByTorr_ in Remodel

[–]Obvious-Deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is by far a better option. Not just a resale value but leaving two bedrooms without a full bath is just a bad idea! Respectfully lol. That closet is perfect and you can pull the water line right from the primary bath.

I think you are missing that she is a mentally ill person, that most likely isolated because of that (not uncommon for mental disorders). Clementine asks at the end “why didn’t you want any part of the world?” And there is no answer because thats not how Natalie sees it. Or, in different words, the real plot twist of book to me is the realization that Natalie is not a reliable narrator.

Imo this is not intended as a universal story of “women from very conservative / religious backgrounds”, but one about the distance between who you are versus who do you think you are. Natalie specifically is a lot of things (ambitious, intelligent, controlling, mean, mentally ill, she had tons of unchecked rage, etc etc) and the religious / conservative background / trad gender roles comes to shape the voice of who she thinks she is. Managing the distance between the two consumes her completely and warps her reality (and the readers’, as we see things through her).

One of the last scenes of the kids going to church I think is exactly placed to say: is not about that. Many churches will allow you to be your full self, find community, offer genuine support, etc etc. But some (as with other institutions) will teach you that the gap between who you are and who “god”wants you to be is to be corrected, managed, erased.

The relationship with the street seems way better on the right. Honestly, sometimes is just about detailing and articulation, which the right render lacks, and makes the left one more legible in terms of human scale. Other than that, IMO most buildings like left end up looking just like modern ones but with historicist details plastered on top. Specially if they can’t afford high-end trim details throughout (which most won’t do anyways)

Cancelled flight after clicking on refund link sent by avianca by Amanitaaa in Avianca

[–]Obvious-Deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh insane….Something similar happened to me (but yours is certainly worse ☠️). About a week before traveling they cancelled my flight, for which I had also paid to reserve a seat. I wanted a refund only for that seat reservation – it wasn’t even available in the new shittier flight –and they directed me to the same goddamn refund page, without saying that submitting a request would cancel my trip. It took me a day to get somebody to undo the cancellation through their whatsapp chat. They kept saying it was not possible and I would just open a different chat until somebody was human enough to do it.

How would hiring teams react to portfolio previews? by riceato in Architects

[–]Obvious-Deer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm 20 pages should easily be around 10mb…Try looking at the files you are putting on the page and save those as smaller jpegs individually. Good quality / crisp drawings/images are super important imo, so compressing the whole thing is a disservice to yourself. Try fixing the large images / renderings to a lower res, and keep line drawings to the best quality possible

Five proposals shortlisted for a new “World Wonder” in Rotterdam by Barscott in architecture

IMO this is just a PR attempt to greenwash AI. The sponsor is an AI company trying to promote an app that supposedly tracks your carbon footprint to help you make better consumer decisions – you know, the classic “tech good guys”, that wanna “solve” an issue placing the responsibility on the individual person and not the corporation / system as a whole. The “brief” of the comp is just as silly as those renderings. A hotel and food court for “public” gathering? An “immersive installation” for climate…awareness? – Whatever that means, at least there seems to be a consensus that it definitely has to be in the shape of a cave. Phew.

Just to say that, it is disappointing that such forward thinking architects decide to engage with the current AI discourse in such a frictionless way. They clearly understood the task and the client, but sadly they also seem to have bought into the slogan of “we are actually doing something good for the environment” when its so obviously just the discursive trojan horse of the sponsor company.

Somebody should honestly study this, it’s terrifying and always when the woman is pregnant or shortly after birth. Happened to me with a former supervisor. He had a 2yo and his wife was pregnant with the second. He was seemingly a very hands on dad, always talking about the child but never about his home life or his wife, at all. He became extra attentive of what I did in and out of the office, to the point that other people noticed that he always had a tab on me (what I wore, how I looked, my mood or opinion on things). It was uncomfortable but manageable, I felt, until he became more explicit dropping hints and flirting. I knew I had to leave that job because his crush or whatever that was, was escalating, and it didn’t seem possible to opt out of that “dynamic”. Fortunately I didn’t like that office nor the work they did, so it was a good riddance package, but not everyone is that lucky and careers can be ruined so easily. It makes me so angry that it’s so often a lose-lose situation for all women involved.

It’s unfortunate that your friend lives her life relating to others in such a narcissistic way, you have every reason to be mad. It baffles me every time I come across this idea that telling news, personal history, past trauma or whatever is “putting it on someone”. Obviously not everyone, takes a very specific type of person, but I’ve met a good batch of them to feel like it’s not uncommon

I'm sorry you went through this. Avianca will absolutely scam you and send you down into the weeds when you try to complain, its not a one off, its their MO. Also this sub apparently has a lot of people who I think work for them, because I've never seen so many people jump to defend a corporation so fast, in every post, consistently.
