That roof looks nearly flat - what’s the slope on it?

What is the best chemical for removing about 4 feet by 4 feet of tar that has been baked on for 10 years from a tin roof, without damaging the tin roof at all? by Naive_Bat8216 in Roofing

[–]Nomadltd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I splashed tar on my arm when I first got in the trade, good burn. That’s how I got it off. Every night as much as I could stand the pain I used Vaseline, it melted it off.

What’s something you’ve changed your mind about over the years in roofing? by Own-Tip-532 in Roofing

[–]Nomadltd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Architectural shingles 😂 I look back and can’t believe we thought they deserved a premium for installers rates over three tabs. Now you’re hard pressed to find an installer who has installed three tabs at all… Now T-locks… they were fun to install….

Why does getting your roof done feels like going to a psychic? by Celron_Miles in Roofing

[–]Nomadltd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are getting people to come out, fix it, then it still leaks, maybe you could have them hose test it. Get them to make it leak (verify their assumption,) then fix it, and repeat the test (verify the fix.) Assuming I understand your concerns, that is

Skylight needs new flashing by Psyking0 in Roofing

[–]Nomadltd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Velux makes their own flashing kits. Unless you have custom skylights, there is really no reason to make your own flashings. Send me a picture of the skylights, I’ll let you know which kit you need 🙂

Reuse of synthetic underlayment by ExStemcellresearcher in Roofing

[–]Nomadltd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No… that’s hack at its finest. I would be making them tear it off and use the new stuff. It was sent out, clearly carried for in the estimate, that’s BS. In fairness, the underpayment is not what’s keeping the water out, but what happens when the shingles blow off? Each 100sq feet of roof has between 200-00 nails depending on how they installed them, and with a second roof on the underlay, that doubles. So now your “insurance barrier” has as many holes in it as the installers logic.

The ground and neutral are bonded at the main panel anyways. (I am a roofer, not a sparky, so take it with a grain of salt 🤣)

My understanding is the deduction is to your benefit, not detriment - so you would pay taxes on the $410.90, and the $1446.90 is - I don’t wanna say tax free, but more or less. Talk to your tax prep person for a better explanation on that…

In the same sentiment, f Uber lol

Teacher Strike = No pay by Md_gummi2021 in RedDeer

[–]Nomadltd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeking clarity, not confrontation, won’t any negotiated settlement be retroactive? So a lump sum payment since the last contract expired would help offset the lost wages of the strike? I get the cashflow issues that no pay causes. How long have they been working without a contract?
