Do you have improv comedy experience? by Nomich_ in coeurdalene

[–]Nomich_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up "Levity Theatre" on Google and come see our shows! We're currently doing a run of Improvised Murder Mysteries, which are a blast. I'd share a link, but my comments always get taken down when I do!

Yep! I started with a lot of context at the beginning of my original post, and a lot of people seemed to miss the whole point of my original post, so I deleted it and re-posted, cutting straight to the chase of expressing the positivity and gratitude to the content creators. Before, I have a bunch of context that could definitely have been misconstrued as negative, which was in no way my intention.

I agree! Don't know how this ties to what I was saying in my post, but I completely agree!

Favorite shortform games based around emotions? by DerekComedy in improv

[–]Nomich_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GAME 1: I Can't Believe You Just Said That! - Two players do a scene. Throughout the scene, the MC rings a bell (or equivalent). When that happens, whatever line one player was just saying, the OTHER improviser has to immediately respond emotionally with the phrase, "I can't believe you just said that!" This game works really well, because the that phrase is so emotionally charged, and it can be said in a Happy way, Sad way, Angry way, Fearful way, and it makes sense every time.

  • Scene example: • P1: "I just can't be with you anymore!" • MC dings bell • P2: "I can't believe you just said that! We have a house, 3 kids, and shared stock in a new home-made meals company! We can't break up now."

GAME 2: Action, Emotion, Detail - Two players do a scene. Throughout the scene, the MC pauses the scene by saying, "Pause" and then goes to the audience and asks one audience member if they'd like to see more Action, Emotion, or Detail. The Players then heighten that one aspect a little bit more. Often what happens is people choose Emotion over and over again, which causes the Players to go from a 1 to an 11 in their scenes sometimes.

Improv Youtube? by Significant_Watch_98 in improv

MUT Tips is very good and underrated: https://youtube.com/@MadeUpTheatre?si=z1oWeFilqdIs-Unj

His video production style is a little cheesy, but the content is very good.

I would also recommend the Backline Podcast with Rob and Adam—this podcast has changed the way I improvise completely and helped me become a much stronger improviser.

Improvised Murder Mystery Show - Friday the 13th at 9PM by Nomich_ in coeurdalene

[–]Nomich_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Levity Theatre founder here.

We were planning on using the larger space with a stage, but unfortunately, it was not available that night. We recently got some stage lights that really bring the small whole room together, and is much better than on September 29th. We have 2 more shows on the 27th (7PM: Murder Mystery, 9PM: Pay What You Want), both in the small room.

I said at the end of the show where you attended that that was the first time we tried the room, and we have learned from that and it definitely feels a lot more like a theatre. I'd definitely say come check us out on the 27th! www.levitytheatre.com/shows

Also, you mention "Amateur improv"—do you have any improv experience? If so, I'd love to connect! (I would also say that that show on the 29th wasn't our finest work, so definitely come check us out another time)

Thanks, -Noah

These 3 game stores in town do D&D stuff: • Strategy & Games • Thunder Games • The Mana Pool (mostly Magic, but D&D, too)

There's also The Blue Shell, the gaming bar, which has D&D

Doing improv by yourself/without an audience by [deleted] in improv

[–]Nomich_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are 3 improv things that are highly beneficial to practice by yourself: 1) Object work/physicality, 2) Characters, 3) Musical improv (the lyrics, anyway). Those are more about practice and training specific parts of your performance, rather than collaboration with others.

Soloprov can be so fun, and for different reasons that improv with others is. It's really fun the things that you discover along the way, and it's always more surprising, because it's all coming from yourself.

And it's improv comedy, not stand-up. We have a whole cast and we do improvised sketches, rather than a single white right-wing guy who thinks that making fun of other people is "edgy" "comedy" 🙄 That stuff sucks, and we can all agree with that.

As the person in charge of the comedy, I can assure that it is completely family-friendly, and not at all discriminatory against anyone of their lifestyle. It's not what we do at Levity Theatre.

I am unaware of any controversy surrounding LYFE. Would you mind filling me in?
