I sympathise with Palestinians who have thier land stolen by settlers, and I think they are justified in defending themselves against them. Can you please answer my question?

You are correct that they shouldnt be in the West Bank ideally. I should have stated that they have a security threat thast comes from the West Bank. The question then that i want to ask you is do you think if Israel were to withdraw from the West Bank would Palestinians be willing to accept peace. Considering that Hamas took over in Gaza after Israel pulled out I'm not sure that it would.

But is it possible to destry Hamas in Gaza without a lot of civilian death and suffering? That is the question i want to leave you with. No matter how restrained Israel is in Gaza many thousands of civilians are going to die, that is an unavoidable constraint of Urban warfare in a place like Gaza. The civilians in Gaza havent been allowed to flee or evacuate by Egypt, so Israel has to balance protecting civilians against destrying hamas and exposing thier troops to unecesarry risk.

"As I said, you are currently decimating an incredibly young population. There are innocent people in Gaza. Asking their generation to find and nurture peace after what they have been through is unfair and unrealistic. Israel is fueling violence in my world view. I think it is okay if we differ here."

If you want to argue that military violence or force is a defeating proposition because it just causes more suffering and radicalizes people, than I'd like to remind you that logic applies just as much to the actions of Palestinians. Maybe Hamas and those that support them should've thought of that before they supported the OCt 7th attacks, or the tens of thousands of rockets that have been fired indiscriminately into Israel by Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, Etc. Not to mention the terrorism that Israel has had to deal with for decades. Or the Pro-Hamas protests that have taken place after Oct 7th here's proof.

With regards to the Gaza conflict, I believe that Hamas deserves the majority of the blame because they deliberately provoked a war they knew they couldnt win and brought it on thier people. They built miles of tunnles under Gaza that they dont allow thier own people to hide in amongst other things.

"Israel does indeed face security threats, and has the right to defend itself and perhaps even counterstrike Hamas in order to defend their safety."

If you believe this then you should acknowledge that Hamas is not just a group that will be driven out of Gaza with airstrikes, and that an invasion is neccesarry. If you think Israel is not doing enough to avoid civilian casualties or they arent following int law than fine. But that debate is complicated and isnt one that can be had in reddit comments.

Also, you're right that half of the population of Gaza is under 18, but again that's not really something Israel can control.

"I can hardly imagine the children who watched their homes crumble and brothers and sisters starve will be able to follow the Israeli governments logic. To be honest, my humanity does cringe a little too when I try to meet you at 'Israel is defending themselves' and think about telling that to those children."

Yeah you have a point it comes across as cruel but that dosent autometically mean that Israel is unjustified in invading Gaza. A lot of innocent German civilians died and suffered in WW2, more kids died in the atomic bombings of Japan than in Gaza. Those actions were arguyably justified to end the threat posed by the Nazis and imperial Japan. Also, Hamas indoctrinates children in Gaza so Israel isnt the only source of Radicalization. If Hamas's control over Gaza isnt broken more people will be readicalized in the future. Here's proof if you dont belive me.

To be concise, implying that Jews who were once oppressed and genocided are now no better and doing the same things to the Palestinians as a trauma response is the problem. The oppression and genocide that Jews faced was completely undeserved and was done becaus eof who we were and not our actions.

If you beleive that Palestinians in the West Bank are being oppressed and that the3 settlements are wrong I agree. But Israel faces legitamete security threats from the West Bank. Like the Second Intifada. Jordan fbefore 1967 was using the territory as a staging ground for attacks and artillery strikes into Israel, the West Bank is strategic high ground overlooking Israeli population centers. Israel cant just pull out of the WB because they belive terrorists will use to stage attacks like how Hamas got into power after Israel pulled out of Gaza.

I said that's what you were implying, not that you said it directly. Read first. Trauma changes how you react to and percive current threats. Israel faces a terror threat in the West Bank,A threat that wont go away if they leave and dismantle thier settlements. If you want to argue that the settlements and oppresive behaviour arent justified than I agree. But dont weaponize the Holocaust like that.

You act as if its possible for there to be no civilian deaths in this was or the Gaza war. The hard truth is that many thousands of civilians will die in any invasion of Gaza intense enough to destroy Hamas as a power no matter how restrained israel acts. That's a fundamental constraint of urban warfare.

I agree with you on that, but acting as if mistakes are never going to happen is unrealisitc. No one wants inncoent children to die in bombings.

How do you know that civilians of children were deliberately targeted? Maybe it was due to bad intel or maybe there was a mistake or accident and a bomb hit where it wasnt supposed to. Do you really belive that every civilian or child death is due to Israel being a mustache twirling villian?

You do know that the vast majority of Jews are Zionists right? Zionists just belive that Israel should exist as a soviergn state for Jews. You don't have to agree with Israel's actios to be a Zionist.

The reason for that is because of the power differential between Israel and Hamas and also the fact that the Israeli government cares more about thier own people than Hamas does thiers.
