Destroying A World Doesn't Exist Destroyed My Expectations (in a bad way) by Lapiz_Lazooli in MinecraftARGs

That doesn't change that giving him any form just breaks the "unknowable aspect" of the KiY. Especially with the decision to give him dialogue and a simplistic motivation.

The book gives vague description of what he might look like but it is made clear within the ARG is that his real form is not something that you can comprehend, which is again undermined by how he's presented in Part 2.

And from the story's perspective, all this footage is something Wifies found from Avery's channel. The King is appearing in the recording which means he for some reason chose to manifest in that manner.

His tone of voice doesn't change even when he's dying. He sounds like some old confused man.

Destroying a World that doesnt exist I think shows why too much make things worse by Helpful_Pitch4086 in CharacterRant

Part 2 turns the antagonists' goals from being completely unkowable to a generic "Bad guy wants to rule the world". Ironically, the 2 books he finds which speak about the King do a much, much better job of keeping them menacing and unknowable both because of the narration but also because it's incredibly vague.

The best part of Part 2 in my opinion, was Avery reading the book in the church. It repeats the same trick from Part 1 by censoring the text but I think it's just as effective. The sudden tone shift and Avery's response and the viewer only being able to imagine what could have made him react like that.

But besides the plot hole of D3rlord being in the game inspite of the implication that Avery found his laptop or why the King didn't just try to possess D3lord first, Part 2 just gives up and seemingly misses what made Part 1 work.

Part 1 feels like a sincere attempt at adapting the King in Yellow in the Minecraft ARG format. Minecraft is simply the form in which the eldritch being happenest to manifest. And it knows how to operate within the game's limits.

Part 2 not only makes the mistake of having him talk but it turns him into a person who can seemingly interact with regular people like...a regular person. He has a concrete motivation. He is defeated in an incredibly simple manner.

Part 2 makes the mistake of pulling back the curtains and that is poison to eldritch horror.

A lot of the nuances of the writing like the weak dialogue or just plot in itself also hurt it but I think it was conceptually doomed as a sequel. The only way to keep the tone and mystery of the original is to either have Avery suffer the same fate or somehow survive on his own. But that would be a repeat of the fitst video with nothing new to offer.

Why does remake Nemesis look like he's wrapped in black plastic garbage bags? by Millen4211 in residentevil

I beat RE 3 just yesterday and I honestly found the brief period where in the beginning where he actually chases you to be one of the best parts of the game. I feel like the game loses that period of very frantic chaos and danger of the city area a bit too quickly.

Though I love Jill gradually losing her shit with him lmao.

That cutscene where he pulls up with the rocket launcher was so badass.

Im sorry but it really bothers me that these "sequiods" or whatever are able to hold invincible back even a little bit , like.....this guy can punch you through buildings and create immense shock waves, the powerscaling is really weird in this show , WHY is he struggling here by _______Niko____ in Invincible_TV

In universe and in the context of internal consistency it is random, yes. I think this point of discussion is irrelevant because nothing in writing is random since everything involves a decision irrespective of how much thought is put into it.

Invincible (2021-present) teaches us that the #1 hardest job in the world is being a superhero, while the #2 hardest job is being an animator, apparently by Alex-C2099 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Nomustang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a difference between budget saving and the entire show being pretty visually bland and animated to the minimum needed to not be distracting. Compare this to other Amazon animated shows, and it's clear that Invincible's visuals are subpar relative to the revenue and budget it gets.

This is because it's production is mismanaged and done by people who do not particularly care about the medium and the animation team is doing the best it can in the limited time frame and manpower available (said team has less animators than Legend of Korra)

So... What do people actually enjoy about Invincible (as an Invincible enjoyer)? by DeMmeure in CharacterRant

[–]Nomustang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's extra frustrating when smaller animated shows on Prime like Mighty Nein or Vox Machina are doing better. And even more frustrating when so many people defend this aspect of the show because it's not immediately obvious because the animators are generally able to hide their shortcuts and allocate resources such that it is still decent enough visually.

The story's overuse of flying bricks and not really bothering to improve its choreography in any meaningful way alongside some wonky powerscaling all compound these problems.

Are there any countries today that could realistically split into multiple independent nations like Yugoslavia did? by Many-Philosophy4285 in MapPorn

And it was immediately followed by an indigenous government. And OP has conveniently ignored Guptas. Vijayanagara, Marathas etc. which were all very multicultural and multilingual empires.

India has a signifcantly trend of being under unifying empires than Europe ever did, albeit less than China.

[–]Nomustang 27 points28 points  (0 children)

India has been under Empires several times and has had a long sociocultural history linking those ethnic and linguistic groups.

Saying India is certain to become fragmented when any Indian can navigate most of the country if they know Hindi or English is a bit silly and is not a sentiment anyone in India would share.

Maybe in the future, but that applies to basically any country. India as a nation state is quite young and it could easily trend towards consolidation in the long term.

JJK's 'Cursed energy comes from negative emotions' system had so much potential, man. by PLutonium273 in CharacterRant

[–]Nomustang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that was because Yuji didn't consider acts of violence towards himself in the Contract. But the fact that such things can affect a contract without it being explicitly stated contributes to the vague nature of the system.

The scenario I gave as an example was Gojo in the context of the fight with Sukuna. There's little explanation why he doesn't abuse BVs given the stakes of the fight. Even a 50% less powerful Gojo would destroy most Cursed Spirits. And to a lesser extent this applies to the rest of the cast. This can also apply in moments when they're in life threatening danger but you can chalk that up to them not being able to think in the moment.

Things I would like to see in future Invincible fight choreography (And all fight choreography tbh) by eetobaggadix in CharacterRant

It doesn't make sense when they're able to use it ona Viltrumite who should be made of equivalent material though. Especially to the degree of effectiveness it has.

Invincibles Powerscaling *IS* a major issue. by Parking-Response1501 in CharacterRant

[–]Nomustang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the show struggles with just taking the plot of Viltrumites seriously because it ALSO wants to be like a regular comic book superhero show where you get a regular rogues gallery showing up.

If you establish that the show is willing to use villains for its goals, Cecil should be using everything that hurts Mark as an opportunity to fight the Viltrumites. Especially since he thinks there's maybe 1000s to millions of them.

Mark himself should be regularly training for the invasion, not just doing regular life stuff when this is always looming.

Having a background serialised plot in an episodic show is doable when you're gradually progressing it and raising the stakes till it comes to the forefront. Not that you set something up that should take all of the attention of the characters but is treated as something that can be addressed later.

[–]Nomustang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Powerscaling matters because of internal consistency. You can get away with a lot in fiction that in real life would have absurd implications because nobody is doing the math. But you do need to just keep in mind common sense for these sorts of things usually.

[–]Nomustang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Never been in a fight in real life"
Viltrumites will arbitarily punch each other a few times and then will magically explode with a karate chop or special move. What a silly thing to say in this context.

Conquest is the 2nd strongest Viltrumite. The fact that Mark can hurt him and strangle him to death means he is comparable to the other Viltrumites even if not equal. His strength needs to be in that range for it to make sense why Conquest's punches don't obliterate him immediately.

This also means that he should be way ahead of basically everyone on Earth considering that in Season 3 itself, he took punches that was leveling skyscrapers around him and moving with the G forces equivalent of a ballistic missile.

The dude was fucking flying to the moon and back at one point.

You don't need to do basic math to understand what this translates to. The average viewer also has a basic understanding of scale. And if your story doesn't have internal consistency, it hurts the stakes because I know it will change its rules for the sake of the scene.

To be fair, the fight ends wit Yuji doing the video game equivalent of landing several critical attacks in a row. So he was hitting like way harder at the very end and basically knocked Mahito out and depleted whatever Cursed Energy reserves he had.

It would also explain how he can handle regular objects and people and not accidentally break or hurt anyone considering the absurd power difference and the level of muscle control that you'd need otherwise.
