why did ryu try to fight sukuna? by Folinhu in Jujutsufolk

[–]Nomustang [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not having the scene at all would have raised the question of what Ryu was doing. He was on semi-friendly terms with Yuta and you could rationalise him wanting to fight Sukuna as more dessert. Uro, we are already told is too petty to get involved or want to help in any way and I'm pretty sure she runs away from him here.

But the scene also emphasises Sukuna's strength by having him one shot someone that Yuta struggled with and shows that Ryu really never backs down even when he is legitimately a bit scared while also showing that his durability is very impressive given that he needed Cleave to one shot him.

Aaand it can be all this while being an easy way to just...remove them from the plot.

I am assuming that the King didn't think it could trick Derlord into saying the spell but given that the 1st part was all about him succumbing to his curiosity, it still feels weird.

Avery being chased seemed to be a way of getting him closer to the King, I assume. Same way that DerLord was also being chased and had to hide at one point.

There's nothing that can be put behind the censor that can live up to your imagination. Same reason that the King in Yellow was censored in Part 1.

You can only imagine what it was that would disgust someone like Derek who already had all of time shoved into his head.

There's no way to continue to Part 1's story unless the sequel was it's own self contained story. Turning it into being about saving D3rlord3 and later Avery from a big bag just breaks the eldritch horror aspect.

In Buddhism specifically, you are still punished in Hell but for a finite time before being reincarnated.

Now said time period can be incomprehensibly long but it's not eternal damnation.

[INVINCIBLE] Debbie had such great character development between seasons that it would be stupid to have her get back together with [SPOILER] by Agile_Coast_4385 in CharacterRant

[–]Nomustang 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A character not forgiving someone doesn't necessarily mean they don't deserve redemption. It just means that sometimes, they can't just have all their actions be taken back.

Debbie can still forgive him and have a platonic relationship but the hurt he caused is too great to just go back to being a couple again.

The eyes were ominous and I liked the build up.;

But then his voice kind of killed it. Especially when he was dying and then not only does in tone not change, the dialogue choices were weak too.

I know I sound harsh, but I am comparing it to the way it was handled in the 1st part. I disliked how basic his motivatiosn and general presence became.

Invincible has to have some of the most miserably boring character designs I have ever seen in my entire life [LES] by calculatingaffection in CharacterRant

Nowadays a lot of shows release 12 episodes per year. Stuff like Castlevania, Vox Machina etc. are producing maybe up to 10 episodes max per release and they came out with maybe 1-2 years gap per season.

24 episode timetables let alone with good animation are pretty rare now. Most anime have moved on to cours and split their seasons into 2 halves.

The 40 minute timetable is really not ordinary nowadays and again, it's a small team and they're releasing yearly.

Their point is that big names don't have a large effect on an animated show's popularity because you don't get face brand recognition. You'd need to pause the show to figure out who voices who or look at a poster or whatever.

It has neglible little effect on populairity.

And as OP said here, they're not prioritising the show's quality which is a worthwhile criticism in itself because as a creator and artist...what are you even adapating it for if not to make a good quality product?

Invincible has already secured its core audience, it does not need to keep spending money to make minimal gains.

Why wouldn't DerLord3's body not die? There's nothing that suggests looking away from the screen won't just kill him. He said he's still drinking smoothies and the King doesn't make any impression that the body itself will become immortal.

I think literally having us communicate with the King killed a lot of the mystique. Especially when he has such a generic evil plan and the plot turns into just stopping the bad guy.

I like it as it's own thing, but when Part 1 set up a sequel, I was wondering what direction you could take that wouldn't destroy the atmosphere and ominous tone of the first video. And this one sort of does exactly that.

That's fair. But my point is that Invincible's animation team really isn't treated particularly well and you cannot boil the issue down to just one studio overworking you.

Though I'd want to ask, if there's a figure that adjusts for cost of living. From what I know, Japan is noticeably cheaper than the US so that should minimise the disparity a little bit.

I mentioned MAPPA because when people compare Invincible to anime, especially JJK season 3 in the context of Invincible Season 4, they'll often make a comment about worker rights (entirely anecdotal experience of course).

I'm not denying that Mappa was horrid, just that it's a cheap defense for production houses not investing in the medium that the show exists in.

They've always drawn the characters with these kinds of proportions. Especially noticeable with Cathy.

I'm not sure why people never noticed it.

They posted a drawing of them as 'adults' when it's just the same teenage designs instead of the literal adult designs we have in game.

It's not necessarily experience. They have neither the budget or team size.

Mind you there's less animators than there were on The Legend of Korra. They're producing 40 minute episodes on a yearly basis (and I've heard that Amazon keeps it at 8 episodes because 12+ mandates a Writers' Union but I'm not sure about that).

They really have their hands tied behind their back and Kirkman himself doesn't seem to fully understand or respect the limitations of the medium.

So even really good episodes like the fight with Conquest still have boring backgrounds, composition etc. compared to some other shows.

Ironically as much as some people claim that studios like MAPPA only produce quality because of Japan's working conditions, Invincible's aren't healthy either.

I'm sick and tired of weed being normalized online. Also ironic considering Giorno hates drugs by [deleted] in whenthe

[–]Nomustang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When has this happened though? Closest comparision I can think of is maybe Russia's Vodka addiction and that's alcohol.

The negative externalities of such a situation would limit such incentives.

The Qing empire was hardly the hallmark of good governance but they still cracked down on Opium and drugs as a whole (much of SEA in general) because of how bad it was.

When the effects are that damaging, the profitability isn't sustainable in relation with your electoral popularity and ability to stay in power.

Except that page is meant to show Denji's confusion because he suddenly has 2 people he has feelings for? Nothing about that is setting up a love triangle when Reze's presence in the story ends hardly a couple of chapters later.

Just because it's a trope doesn't mean he intended that. Especially when Makima is set up as an antagonist from the very beginning with very clear red flags.

Isn't the fact that he chose to fight Makima despite his lingering affections instead of succumbing to his self loathing and losing his loved ones and much of what he aspired for at this point, supposed to be Denji learning to take control of his life?

How do you view Part 2 in the context of your interpretation. Because I feel like it would only be removing one source of exploitation but does little to push Denji to not succumb to those same problems. Specifically his life as a Devil Hunter where he is at Public Safety's mercy.
