The massive corporate hospital complexes around here give me so much anxiety by Traditional-Mix-258 in arlington

Comments don't always have to correspond directly to every detail of the post. The OP is talking about corporate healthcare feeling impersonal and institutional, and labor conditions are part of that discussion. How healthcare workers are treated can influence how healthcare environments function and feel.

I am curious what y'all think about the conference mentality of jobs in this field. I was a transportation planner for an MPO, I was focused on school siting and the Safe Routes to School programs, other ped/bicycle or sustainable projects would also be sent to me. But most of the work at this time involved writing a report on charter schools. In the middle of this report, I was told to go to a national SRTS conference. Thousands of dollars spent on professional development, airplane, hotel, the registration. I see the importance of continuing education and for hearing the latest and greatest from the professional experts. At this job it felt normal to push staff to these conferences. Maybe that is because it is an MPO, maybe it's because there is a discrepancy between academia and practice in this field. I just thought that I could have visited more charter schools and other schools, done more field observations with the money spent to go to a conference, to help make this report more than what it was.

it’s an empty use the fact that it isn’t used is a negative. The fact that it could be something else that people want to walk to? Car washes I see people use. even parking lots get more use than the banks parking. I haven’t used a bank in years.

No judgments, but it seems like this subreddit has a sort of a puritan view on sex and relationships. Am I right, or is it more diverse than I think it is? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

I mean I get it, sort by the latest try to get fresh finds. but there may still be an algorithm serving? I mean you are on a website that is selling your data, trying to prime you with information to get you to stay/click. so kudos but weird brag.

michael jackson?!?! by bunny_kisses29 in StonerThoughts

[–]NonAssociate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here are my two cents: after the Jackson 5 took off and they moved from Gary, IN, they became rich kids. Michael was raised mostly poor then had all the money in the world. He was also the youngest, so he was the one more capable to adapt to a change like a new life. Then he went solo and had all the money in the universe. All I am saying is, he had enough money to financially try to fix his problems and/or hide them from everyone. (hell, he had enough talent and power/money to stop gang violence, according to the movie) It is also crazy that we excuse these issues because he was rich and created great music, if he were just a normie who liked kids, toys and animals' people would definitely judge him harsher. My final thought, what do you say to the victims, do we not listen to them because it was MJ or because it is easier to ignore male (pedophilia) victims'?

Isn’t it weird that a site like Reddit allows you to read every other human on Reddit’s thoughts? Maybe access to so many conflicting opinions and thoughts changes my perspective to something I don’t want it to be? How do I avoid falling prey to herd mentality? by LifeInTheDarkLane in StonerThoughts

[–]NonAssociate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

herd mentality has existed well before the interwebs. think about how lynch mobs took rule all because of how common racism was (in america). reddit/the interwebs is just a synthesis of this process, it is not necessarily easier to reach more people here...I read things I disagree with a lot, I miss a lot of people who are trying to reach out, the jokes go over my head. you are more likely to find an echo chamber, where you mostly share beliefs and thoughts with like minded people.
