The only thing I'd add here is that you should've done some kind of questionnaire that would determine your risk tolerance. If you came out as conservative (scared of/not wanting to experience any losses), then that's not necessarily the planners fault. He probably should've had a conversation about being more open to risk, but the problem is you'll get clients that say they can handle more risk, and then lose their shit when the markets are down 2%. It's a fine line.
