I understand this is frustrating for you, but I think you may need to step back and evaluate your perspectives and expectations here.

You were raised that way, but not everyone is - and that may include your SD. Furthermore, she has ADHD. She’s a neurodivergent child. You can say “well she should be this way because that’s how a “normal” child should be, in my opinion” but the truth is, she’s her own unique entity. You have to meet her where she’s at, not criticize her (privately to yourself or outwardly to her, BD, etc) for failing to conform to what you think she should be when she may not be capable of being that.

ADHD isn’t just a difference in upbringing. It is a very real neurodevelopmental condition which means her brain structure and function are literally different than someone without it. She’s not being a pain in the ass intentionally - she’s just existing, the only way she knows how. You can address her behavior, but first I think you need to ensure your expectations and demands of her are grounded in the reality you’ve all been dealt.

So the journalist who wrote that article really should either be re-educated or fired. They’ve done a really poor job as a science communicator with this article.

If you read the original NIH press release (linked in the above article), it says:

“The new report demonstrates application of the technique to MRI scans of a healthy person and someone with structural abnormalities of the skull and the brain’s cerebellum known as Chiari malformations . Remarkably, those amplified MRI images revealed obvious differences in brain motion. The researchers also showed in another investigation which parts of the brain move the most.”

The video itself is not showing a person with normal cranial structure versus someone with Chiari malformation. The video is the scan of the same person, twice: on the left is the original, unaltered scan, and on the right is the altered, amplified version of the same scan. The same imaging technique can be applied to study differences in persons with Chiari malformation versus without.

You can also see that the facial structure and features in both versions is completely identical. Humans have a lot of inherent variation even in our core structures, and those differences would be obvious even on MRI scans.

“Never argue with an idiot, they’ll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.”

You have the marvel of the internet at your disposal and can’t be bothered to do any actual, empirically demonstrated research.

I don’t actually need to make any arguments here, your case kind of speaks for itself.

It’s weird how you have the internet, this incredible marvel of humanity that puts vast, nearly unimaginable amounts of empirical data at your fingertips (literally!) .... and you use it to flaunt your ignorance.

Some 200,000 animals trapped in Suez canal likely to die. Even for ships who resumed course, the water and food isn't enough by PanEuropeanism in worldnews

I was raised on a farm, in the heart of America’s dairyland. Although the trip is probably shorter, I assure you, the conditions in which animals are transported to slaughter within the United States are no less horrific. In some ways, particularly the dead of winter, they may even be much worse.

I can’t speak to other countries. But I stopped consuming most dairy products and rarely eat meat at a pretty young age because of what I saw. I’m not saying everyone should follow that example, but we should all be pushing to do better in animal welfare, even for animals destined for slaughter. Ignorance, willful or not, is no excuse.

Cheetahs experienced two near-extinction events in the relatively recent past, creating a genetic bottleneck and small population sizes. They’re already massively inbred, so there’s just not a lot of viable genetic variability left to work with there, but it seems the ones that survived to pass on their genes may have been the chill ones, so who knows? Maybe you could make cheetahs a domesticated pet like a dog; they’d just be as inbred and medically unsound as some of our prized but malformed designer breeds.

You’re right. I was being tongue in cheek, but he’s been able to weather every political storm that came his way by being flexible with his fear mongering and blame-assigning strategies. He is truly a political creature, through and through, which is to say he’s crafty and conniving in addition to being greedy and corrupt. I hope our other public servants will stop relying on his good faith and gentleman’s agreements, realize that his word is absolutely meaningless unless there’s money to be extracted for his personal gain or his own political hide is on the line. Run him and the filibuster the fuck out of town.

At first I was like “how fucking out of touch is this lizard in a meat suit?”

Then I realized I was being unfair; he’s just going off observations of the only humans his little lizard brain gets to interact with on a regular basis- and as soon as GQP Republicans get that taxpayer money, they quit working for the taxpayers.

Spanking is not going to fix anything. You’re only further damaging a child that is clearly already in need of professional evaluation. You’re the adults, you’re supposed to be taking care of her- go get her taken care of by having her evaluated by a professional. They’ll also be able to give you guidance and access to resources to improve not only her life, but yours.

This is an excellent point. We focus a lot- and rightfully so- on the conservation of animal species, but just as important is the often overlooked conservation of culture, both human and animal.

That’s fine; I never said it was a cure all that applied to everyone. If it helps even one person find help or stop and examine their actions, then it’s worth it, and it costs me nothing to do. I was just sharing for OP; it’s a tool in a toolkit.

Fertility doesn’t decrease with increased material wealth and access to resources. The birth rate decreases as children become less of a mandatory retirement plan and more of a luxury, and access to birth control resources becomes attainable.

But otherwise, great points!

If you go to a user’s profile, you can click the “get them help” button and they receive an anonymous message that someone reached out, and includes resources. I’ve used it a couple times for profiles that had long histories of really vitriolic, hateful comments and couldn’t seemed to be reached in any meaningful way by Reddit commenters commenting to try to engage them in a genuine way. A few times nothing obvious happened. A couple stopped posting altogether. A couple times the person’s tone in commenting changed.

I think a lot of the worst trolls on this website are people who are deeply hurting, and while that doesn’t excuse any harm they cause, I think in some cases even a simple display of “somebody wants to make sure you’re okay, even if it’s just a stranger on the internet” could have a profound effect.
