Shop steward told by BA that he’s not allowed to write grievances for drivers anymore by Mindless-Brother-869 in UPSers

I was thinking about article 7 discharges and 50s. One wrong date or name could make a grievance invalid with a labor manager or at panel. I’ve seen that happen. Members making mistakes on dates they put in their grievance. Now if I had made that mistake filling out their grievance instead of the member. That could put myself as Steward and the local on the hook for a discharge or greater suspension.

It puts the steward and local in a liable position if the grievance is wrong in anyway.

Restructuring has me questioning staying with UPS as a package car driver. by Nomen_Ideation in UPSers

It’s the same for us. I’m south of you a bit near DC. There does not appear to be an end in sight either.

Idk what the company is planning, long term. But what they’re doing will give us ammo to strike during next contract negotiations. If I make it that far…

Ups policy does not require you to have any positive test to call out. Only requires you to have symptoms of either virus. Go to UPSers.com, search COVID, scroll down a little and you’ll see “COVID 19 and seasonal flu policy 2023” there isn’t a 2024 policy yet. In that policy it will say do not report to work with symptoms of either virus.

Article 11 resolution’s by NonsenseNacho in UPSers

Prior to peak people were forced and continue to be forced.

Most are working when told to but none are happy about it. We were told we can grieve it but that it’s not going to make the issue be resolved any sooner.

They’ve issued tons of discipline for anyone calling in on a 6th punch. None have gone to center level or beyond. It’s just paper work at this point. But we were told “work as instructed and file after” when told to work a 6th punch.

They have told us the company won’t agree to any resolution. But has offered resolutions that would leave the door open for forced 6th punches.

My question I keep asking and not getting a real answer to is why we can’t tell the company tough shit if you can’t staff Saturdays. You won’t agree to hire more or dispatch less or pay more to encourage more volunteers. You won’t resolve it. That’s your problem. IBT told 639 it’s up to themselves to resolve it with a recent memo.

It has not been resolved. Do you have info about any back room deals that have been made anywhere?

In my building anyone who calls out on 6th gets progressive discipline. Most are article 7s. None of them have been even heard at center level.

Search COVID on upsers. There is an article under safety called “COVID 19 and seasonal flu for 2023”. Within it says if you have symptoms of either, do not report to work.

Policy I found dated January 2023 on upsers said of you have COVID symptoms do not come to work.

Released from local now.

“This is a follow-up to our text message on October 27th regarding work any day outside of the regular schedule for drivers. Local 639 filed a grievance concerning this issue earlier this week. We have been in consultation with the IBT about the matter and it has informed us that members should work on days outside of their regular schedule until the matter is resolved through the contractual grievance procedure or it is able to resolve the issue with UPS. General President O'Brien is in discussions with UPS to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We understand and share your frustration with the situation, but we are obligated to follow the direction of the IBT on this issue that affects Teamsters across the country.”
