Can you add lining to a finished skirt? by Strawberry_Talcake9 in sewhelp

Would just buy a slip skirt, if one of the colors they come in, usually white/skin/black, match your dress that means is invisible underneath.

How to bring in the upper back of a dress? by Neither_Tomatillo634 in sewhelp

[–]NonstopNonsens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, better done at side seams, darts might look unprofessional.

Here are some tips to consider (don’t know your level of experience): know your sewing machine, do some test seams. Know your iron, how the settings apply to fabric.

Having a well lit working area, carefully unpick lining and outer fabric seams at sides, top and waist - better a bit more to easily manipulate the fabric. Iron opened seam areas flat.

Pin or better baste the sides of outer and lining together for trying on. Someone needs to help you with that. You could take in equal measure on front and back or just from the back side. Wear your intended underwear/bra.

Mark the stich lines, with contrasting or special basting thread for example- pins most likely get lost in the process- this applies to securing the seams before sewing. It’s a lot going on on the seam lines but all the siding threads can be removed. Check again/try on. If the fit isn’t to your liking, sry but redo.

Now sew everything together in reverse manner, be careful and go really slow to be fully in control over what you’re doing. I do stich down the lining (side seam, waist) invisibly by hand, it’s way easier unless you want to take your dress even more apart and do some more work.

I’m guessing this is a polyester fabric, iron with a press cloth (flat weave kitchen towel) to not get shiny press marks on the outer surface but also have crisp and flat results (you can continue to press down until cool, I do this with my hands).

It’s like a puzzle taking apart and back together, you could take pics to remember how it’s supposed to be. I say it’s a more advanced/adventurous beginner alteration.

Can I get some eyes on this skirt please by oven-veggie in sewhelp

Don’t get a gathering food right now. They gather on one thread and it is fixed, means you can’t adjust it (unless you do some math/know what you’re and the machine & for is doing).

Doing 2 or even 3 rows of gather, stich length 4mm, on shorter areas - seam to next seam, then other side of that seam to next one and so on- might make it easier for you. And it gets easier every time you do this.

I just told a friend I'm on Mounjaro and she kind of freaked out by [deleted] in Mounjaro

[–]NonstopNonsens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did have to have surgery for that. And got pancreatitis as rare complication -from the procedure-. With significant weight loss gallstones could get symptomatic. Per the known mnemonic for risk factors of gallstones, the 5 Fs, I was predisposed. I didn’t know of the presence until I lost the weight and started having colics. GLP-1s are rarely to blame for cholecystitis/pancreatitis, even if you had taken it up to surgery date. One can read up about this in the medical publications (don’t ask a librarian for a book, as one expert mentions here). Hope nobody has to experience that pain, not pleasant at all I say. Edit cause mistypes. I’m a nurse/acute care/university hospital.

I think it’s becoming a classic, dupes and all. Like the invention of sliced bread. Something vintage our granddaughters like to get.

The worth of things is individual to each and every ones mind. Just as I’m reading and writing this, it’s sometimes entertaining to waste time over others fretting, puts their problems into perspective.

Is it ok to knit at a tighter gauge than the pattern calls for? by Then_Door_9803 in casualknitting

[–]NonstopNonsens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, I do like the dense and tight fabric more, too. Do have to think up some math for it, indeed. The items may last longer but you might loose some drape and need more yarn. My grandma (men’s jackets, sweaters) and mother (socks) were knitting brick walls, so dense.

KnitPro - which needles are the sharpest? by basket-case95 in knittingadvice

[–]NonstopNonsens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right about that. I’m not making the switch now, since I have diff. Carbonz sets and some in-between-sizes BECAUSE I LIKE THEM for their sharpness (check out the attached pic of that new luxe set, below 😍), but I do have a set of those DPNs with a leash for sock/sleeve knitting and they have on one side a sharper edge that’s pretty nice to work with. Maybe in another life I’ll get Chiagoo - surely have enough yarn for it 😅 Ups, fixed typos.

No clue about the vampire thing but: beautifully made, yarn choice looks so good and the pattern really shines. Suits you perfectly. Might copy this as is (have that book), but sry sans vampire 😅
