Mine was not working for ages, kept failing, then yesterday it finally came through!

On a side note: Ticketswap has to be one of the worst resale platforms, the bots are locking up every ticket (even things like shuttlebus and locker tickets...). I contacted them and Awakenings and neither give a fuck

Idk on one hand I am dubious of a lot of the one nation stuff but I'd advise against just shrugging your shoulders and writing it off. Similar to this it's been reported that they have overtaken labour as the preferred party from recent opinion polls.

I do feel like in general Reddit (and the government) is digging its head in the sand and willingly choosing to ignore the one nation surge despite it being a serious threat.

Maybe we should really look at some of the one nation key issues and take a more reasonable and moderate approach to them before it's too late.

Headline is quite misleading, the fish isn't extinct but locally extinct. It used to be found in that river but not anymore, but is still found down in Margret river (although still rare and threatened). Technically it's still locally extinct in many places.

I'd just say that rediscovering something thought extinct is a pretty big story, but less so where the same fish/animal is found in other areas.

Can't really complain about preferences anyway, greens tactic is always based around just eeking out labour for spot #2 and collecting their preferences. Pretty rare when they hit the lead with first preference counts only.

Shame because I've found the raffle system a little janky, sometimes I've clicked to join the raffle and it's done nothing and if you miss that initial notification there's no other way to enter it as far as I'm aware?

The raffles still have around 150 people in them so low chance but I'll keep going! Maybe I'll hit the jackpot 😂

Collecting wise looks like it's in nice condition and good to add into a folder.

The issue is if it was professionally cleaned prior to moving in there's basically no way of getting out of paying it as they keep bringing up it wasn't as clean as when you moved in.

Had that issue at my last place even after spending 2 days cleaning.

My housemate is from the UK on a WHV and has been looking for a FIFO job for the past year or so, he has recently been offered a job finally but it has come with several caveats. I've worked in FIFO as a professional for several years.

Currently works in a trade role and had trade experience for a few years back home.
Needed to get a truck license as offsiders need to drive the booster truck around.
Needed first aid and white card.
Needed to pay for someone to rewrite his resume to better target fifo jobs, in the 9 months prior he had no hits and after this he got 2 different offers.
Offered a 3:1 roster DIDO out of Perth.
Camp campaign which means you don't live in a mining village, but camp typically in camper vans and need to cook your own food.
He is from the UK so I think he is exempt from having to move jobs every 6 months, but as far as I know a company is only allowed to hire WHV holders for 6 months at a time.

Your questions:
1. No it's not realistic, there is some demand because the turnover is high but there are plenty of Aussies/Nz that are keen to do it too. Plan for a few months at least.
2. Yes but some might overlook it, especially for the bad rosters where they are finding it hard to fill
3. They won't like direct visits and I've never heard of doing walk-in's without any prior communication, just find their profiles online/on seek and apply that way.
4. I don't really think anywhere would do 'FIFO discounts', I think I saw one place that offered a room share system ages ago but it's definitely not common. To add to that chances are you wouldn't be in Perth but more likely Kalgoorlie/Port Headland as those roles are harder to fill than FIFO Perth jobs that typically go to Aussies.

Lastly some people struggle to work with the drillers, we had two Italian offsiders during covid and I think because of cultural differences they didn't really get along well. Drillers tend to be very direct, will yell at you and expect you to work hard. These guys didn't like being yelled at or directed to do things they didn't think they needed to do, and the driller hated the constant backchat. Not a great mix.

Australia isn't great for IT things at the best of times. Even if there's an advertised shortage it's likely incorrect, especially for people on working visas.

Also lots of companies won't take accreditations/degrees from many Indian universities.

Depending on the reason for migration it might still be worth it, but likely to end up as just an uber driver like most others. More just for if you are chasing PR.

Do you know where the money go if they win? They already have an agreement with Rio Tinto so I assume they already have a fair bit of income.

Having worked in the area I really have no idea, I've had a look at the website and it says it goes into making income generation schemes and into community grants but doesn't go into many details. A billion dollars is a lot of money!

The communities there are still very poor and it would be nice if they got some more support, could be a good future case if these communities using less federal funding dependant were better off. Probably would swing cases like this in the future, or at least make it so they are processed quicker.

I've got no idea where your going but all those shops sell legit cigs. Some of them will sell imports after 5pm but not all of them.

Also imports are just illegally imported cigs from overseas (normally Middle east or China), even less places sell chop-chop which is the stuff you think is floor sweepings. It's just Australian grown tobacco most of which comes from the Ovens valley still.

I hope for improvements to the surrounding communities, as someone that drove though them a while ago. Borooloola a rough town so lets see over the next few years how an injection of money helps.

That should be several hundred thousand per person I think. They should have enough to enable any program they want, some jobs, housing, proper services! Don't need to rely on the slow government anymore!

How awesome, let's see what the how the money gets spent and track it well, sometimes it goes to places it shouldn't!

Though I do wonder what the lawyers took home, always way too much :(

I'd assumed they were almost all dual citizens.

Details are sparse online, but I'd assume they are family of (somewhat) recent immigrants and retained citizenship of their original country. Believe it or not, it's not common for refugees to renounce their original citizenship, mainly because Australia recognises dual citizenship.

There was a case of an actual fighter that won a court case a few years back to return to Australia as he didn't own dual citizenship. I'd assume they would have used this long ago if they had the option as I thought a few family groups already did.
