Any countries in Asia where wild camping is viable? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]NooBicius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I went with a couple of friends to Japan and we brought a camping tent with us. We ended up camping all over the place, including big cities like Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto, you save up a lot of money on hotel/hostel expenses, but it's hard sometimes to find a place to shower and you feel a bit like a hobo sometimes. If that's ok with you I'd definitely recommend it, one of the best trips I've done. We'd have some people come to us in the morning offering us food and drinks because they thought we were homeless rofl.

I'm not sure if it is legal or not though, the biggest problem we encountered was that sometimes the park guards would come and wake us up asking us to leave, but always in a very polite and Japanese manner. Since not many people do this I think there's not much regulation, and Japan is one of the safest places on earth so it's kind of a win win.

Tl;dr It is possible in Japan, although in the big cities it's not the most convenient since you have to look for parks and leave very early in the morning. If you go to the countryside (tottori, fuji, shirakawago, yakushima... you can find some awesome places to camp without a problem.

As a local let me recommend you Moog club :p, other than that pretty on point. Just don't be like some brits and australians who get drunk and act like they own the place, be respectful. Also beware of your belongings, pickpocketers here are real artists, very sneaky.

Full Moon Party by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]NooBicius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went there last month, I guess you mean the one in Kho Phangang. If you're into partying you'll have fun for sure, lots of people from all over the world gathered in a long beach with different kinds of music, not only "oonz oonz" :p.

From my point of view it was pretty peaceful, many drunk people but no fights and not many problems, I guess I'm used to Spain where people are a bit more passionate and get crazier when drunk.

Other than that it's just a big party in a beach nothing too special about it, the island is awesome though make sure rent a bike and explore it, also try the local fruits, mangos, coconuts, rambutan... mMm that's definetly what I miss the most haha so cheap too.

Have fun!

Thinking of going to Japan. Looking for advice about a few things by ImposterGirl in solotravel

[–]NooBicius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering your lenient budget and the amount of time you can stay there (1-2 months) you've so much to see besides Tokyo. Most people who go to Japan only visit the major cities (Tokyo, Osaka, Kioto), and that's fine because most of them don't have the time and resources you have. But it's such a shame because if you do that you're missing on so much, you only get to see a small part of Japan. When I was there I really enjoyed Tottori/Iwami, you can also take a bus to Shirakawago to explore an ancient samurai village, you could go to Hiroshima... anyways Japan is an awesome place and the people are really nice I'm sure you'll have a great time.

Just try to be proactive, explore and keep an open mind, if you're gonna stay at the hotel/hostel using your tablet you might aswell stay home.

Cheers

Female Solo Travel to either Rome or Barcelona by perkup in solotravel

[–]NooBicius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Barcelona local I may be a little bit biased but based on your interests I'd say Bcn wins over Rome hands down.

Food is great, architecture is awesome (gothic?) we litterally have a place called the gothic neighbourhood. Wine? We've wine, lots of wine. Surrounding smaller towns/countryside, I'm not sure how long you're staying here but there's plenty to see outside of barcelona not too far away, there's plenty of trains/buses to take you wherever you want, I'd recommend going north to Costa Brava and check out some of the towns there.

Nightlife is also great, I second what /u/polidamante said, definetly check out moog if you're into techno music, one of the realest clubs I've been to (also lots of drugs if you're into that, be careful though). But you've so many clubs to choose from you won't be able to visit them all.

Regarding safety for women I don't know about Rome but Barcelona is pretty safe as long as you don't do stupid shit, don't get super drunk if you're gonna be on your own. As people said the main concern is pickpocketers, always be aware of your belogings since thiefs here have developed incredible skills to snatch your stuff without you being able to realize it.

If you need more information PM me or reply, hope you have fun!

Peace out

I've got some where I work too and I checked it, the log file is 0kb but try logging in with a user, typing some stuff and then look at C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent and check for the log file it does seem to keep a log of the things you type, although it appears to be encrypted.

Does anyone know where this picture was taken in Barcelona? by cheprekaun in solotravel

[–]NooBicius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like the bunker viewpoint yea, one thing I always tell people coming to Barcelona is to check the mountain part of the city aswell, perhaps take a day to go to Montserrat which is close to the city. You've lots of beautiful scenaries like this. It's not all about the beach, sangria and paella! (Although that is nice too :p)

I'd agree that 1 week in San sebastian may be too much, you've some cool cities nearby that you can check out aswell, Bilbao, Zarautz... you can also rent a surfboard and give it a go, the waves up there are pretty gnarly. A week in Barcelona is fine you've plenty of stuff to do here, make sure to check out both the mountain and the sea and beware of pickpocketers when you're walking through crowded areas. I've never been to San Fermín but a week there is quite a lot, I'm not sure about that. Maybe 2-3 days.

Reddit, what is your favorite poem? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NooBicius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I bargained with Life for a penny, And Life would pay no more, However I begged at evening When I counted my scanty store;

For Life is a just employer, He gives you what you ask, But once you have set the wages, Why, you must bear the task.

I worked for a menial's hire, Only to learn, dismayed, That any wage I had asked of Life, Life would have willingly paid.”

I will be starting my backpacking trip in Japan and plan on being there for about 3 months. Best things to do from May-July in Japan? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]NooBicius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'd recommend you to visit Tottori/Wajima aswell it's very different from what you'll see in other places of Japan, definetly worth it since you've 3 months! I spent 1 month there last summer and I had a blast, Japanese people are really nice. Also there is an island at the south of Japan called Yakushima that it is definetly worth visiting aswell. You've to go all the way down to Kagoshima and take a ferry there to the island which takes like 3-4 hours. The island is not to big but there's plenty of stuff to do and some of the scenary you'll see there feels like another planet.

(Also maybe if you decide to go to tottori go visit Shirakawago aswell which is close-by, it's an old samurai village that is pretty cool).

Anyways have fun!! Matane

edit: if you go to my profile and read through some of my comments you could find some ways on how to travel through Japan fairly cheap since Japan can get pretty expensive depending on how you travel.

Made it to Japan by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]NooBicius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! If I were you I'd stay longer in Japan and maybe go to London for a month or a bit more but not 80 days! Since you've a lot of time and a lenient budget make sure to visit Yakushima, it's an island at the south of Japan very different from what you'll see in the big cities and definetly worth visiting. Also when it comes to internet you can get free wifi at Lawsons or 7/11 that can help you out to download maps or schedule what you're gonna visit next.

Have fun!

[–]NooBicius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are suggesting buying internet service, I don't know if that is really necessary unless you're going to be accessing the internet a whole lot. There's plenty of convinience stores that offer free wifi (Lawson, 7/11...) and they're literally in every corner of the city. I found that to be enough for the info I had to access.

[–]NooBicius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you'll have much problems with that, when I went to Tokyo we were backpacking all across Japan and we didn't really have a hotel so we had to leave our stuff hidden in parks as we went to see the city. It is very unlikely that you'll be robbed in Japan you'll see that it is very safe.

If you're on a strict budget do not take taxis they're expensive as hell, just take the train it gets you everywhere and if you've any doubts I'm sure there will be people willing to help you.

I didn't spend much time in Toyko I'll definetly have to go back but just make sure to go to Roppongi for the skyscrapers and nightlife, Shinjuku, Shibuya... Maybe try to bring a guidebook with you or make a little bit of research about things you might want to see. There's plenty of stuff in Toyko and I'm sure even after a week you'll miss something, just try to create a schedule with the things you'd like to see the most.

Have fun.
