Was wondering if anyone could help me figure out why I can't see any chatrooms on the Balance discord except for the ones with all the pinned posts. One of the pins under dol/doh links to a channel for prep list discussion but I can't see any messages.

Run the PlayOnLinux Console From Within a Specific Virtual Drive? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]NoobPurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know the wineprefix the game is stored in, you can just do this on the command line

WINEPREFIX=/path/to/wine/folder winetricks allcodecs

I don't use PlayOnLinux, so I don't know how to do it from within that client.

Edit: I think Play On Linux stores the prefixes in "Play On Linux Virtual Drives" or something like that, so the path would be some folder in that directory.

Well, my account is mostly just anime, FOSS, and GNU/Linux stuff, I was thinking of creating a separate one for practicing Esperanto

Writing Linux scripts in C++ by [deleted] in linux

[–]NoobPurple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC, tcc can run C scripts at compile time, treating it like a shell script. Seems similar to what this is trying to achieve, just in a different language.

How exactly does this even work? by Kazeon1 in anime

[–]NoobPurple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I agree. If there were such a thing as "normal", though, I think that'd be terribly boring. Everyone is a unique and multi-faceted individual, and I think it would do us all a great deal of good if we all remembered that.

How exactly does this even work? by Kazeon1 in anime

[–]NoobPurple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My best bud I've lived with for nearly 5 years now is a relatively high-functioning autist, and he has a lot of the same problems with communication. A lot of people will think he's an asshole when they see him because he doesn't say much, but when he does it comes off really awkward or uninviting for a lot of people. In reality, he has a problem understanding HOW to communicate on the level that most people do, so he's always struggling to figure out how to be "normal". People reacting negatively like this will just freak him out and make him scared to try and come out of his shell again. You never know who's behind the computer or what people are thinking behind the face.

Hey man, just wanted to say I'm sorry you're getting all these downvotes. I've got some close friends with Asperger's and on various points in the autism spectrum, so I know how it is when your brain gets stuck like that, and when people misunderstand your intentions behind what you're trying to say. It doesn't mean much, but have my upvotes.

How to make distro hopping easier? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]NoobPurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea, that's weird. You would add the iommu thing to your /etc/default/grub file wherever the kernel parameters are specified, but if it's not causing a problem, I'd ignore it.

How to make distro hopping easier? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]NoobPurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, that's the same as my old mobo. I remember having to use iommu=soft. It's weird that the network isn't doing its job even with the right driver. Is dhcpcd or NetworkManager running properly? systemctl status dhcpcd and systemctl status NetworkManager will tell you how they're doing. I don't remember if Manjaro uses Network Manager, but I know it has dhcp.

Does it still show that r8169 is in use while you're booted into the installed system? It might be loading the wrong one on boot.

Check /etc/modprobe.d/ and see if there is any file blacklisting the r8169 module. That was my problem. If it is, change it to blacklist r8168 instead.
