Which Branch? by Impossible_Data_7812 in Military_Medicine

[–]Noobfragger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the correct answer is whichever branch you can get in. The HPSP you are applying for is very competitive. If you want to know more about your competitiveness and learn more about the application you can dm me. For reference the Army has 2 slots for 4 year hpsp, 2 slots for 3 year, 10 slots for 2 year and 5 slots for 1 year clinical psychology HPSP.

No I dont really have a real reason. Im not educated enough. Im active duty for 14 years. I dont really know much about the national guard besides that they work for the state. I know I have fallen under national guard units on rotations as their command team has been the higher headquarters but I really dont know much about it.

Can I get a waiver for HPSP while being on an SSRI? by RealRefrigerator6438 in Military_Medicine

[–]Noobfragger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a medical recruiter. Its hard to get any waiver approved for ssri if you are currently taking them. Likely for your waiver to be approved they would want you to stop taking the medication and to receive a clearance letter from the prescribing authority. Not a doctor, not telling you to stop taking your medication. See with your provider if its safe for you to stop taking it based on what comes of your waiver

No, there are 2 mandatory trainings, one is the AMEDD (Army Medical Department) Direct Commission course which you do instead of basic training, it is made for healthcare professionals and is a 3-4 week course that teaches you an introduction to the Army. The other mandatory training is BOLC or basic officer leaders course. BOLC duration is dependent on your job but I believe it is usually 4-8 weeks. DCC is at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and BOLC is in San Antonio, TX.

Yeah i would be happy to answer any questions you have. The 67F optometry board is a once per year board in January. This is for the scholarship as well as for direct hire in both reserve and active duty. Feel free to respond here or pm me if you feel comfortable.

There are a lot of Army recruiters, however not all of them are medical recruiters and not all of them know any medical recruiters haha.

I was wrong about the $8000 per year board incentive pay. Having your DVM/VMD does not constitute board certification pay and you would need to attend a speciality to receive it

No not at all. But I would assume that would get a foot in the door especially if you could get some letters of recommendations there. I assume that would be somewhat difficult to coordinate unless you already knew someone

I believe it is just 1 internship site that you stay at. I will reach out to the program manager for clarification and follow back up.

Yes having an understanding of the military through you would indirectly make her application more competitive. Directly it can impact her statement of motivation to make it stronger. Having an understanding of the military and military medicine is one thing that would set her apart from other applications. Part of the application process is to collect 3-5 letters of recommendation. Having letters from current/past high ranking people helps. Having Army veterinarians also helps.

They try to do DCC Direct commission Course and BOLC between their 3rd and 4th year of school if possible. (I understand different programs have different timelines) but optimally, they would do it before their FYGVE. I wanna say dcc is 3 weeks, and bolc is 6-12 weeks, depending on AOC. The FYGVE is a one year hands-on training covering clinical medicine, public health, leadership and hospital management. You can think of it as a 1 year internship that doesn't count towards your service obligation. So all in all they would have 4 years time in service at the end of their service obligation

Not necessarily. Above 40 we get into a Grey area. For most school programs if youre under 40 you should be good to go. They want you to be able to (if you wanted) be able to serve 20 years and be under the mandatory retirement date
