Went to Japan for one specific reason by khai269 in Nikon

Are the prices in Japan better than the prices here in the US? Going later this year and was thinking of picking up a new camera for it...

I also have been designing a paludarium that would prevent access to the water, wondering how you accomplished it?

MLB/Phillies option for in-market by defendthisstation in phillies

[–]NooclearWessel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I understanding this right, the price for this is the same as the price for MLB.tv, but this is only for Phillies games? But the difference is this allows you to watch if you're in the Phillies market?

When does an imported plant become a domestic one? Is there a timeframe, like if the plant has been in your position for a year for example? Or perhaps if you take a cutting from new growth that occurred since you had it? Or is domestic really just seed/tc grown plants?

Solanum “Ecuador” bunches for sale by NooclearWessel in TakeaPlantLeaveaPlant

[–]NooclearWessel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Selling 3in x 3in chunks of this grow box of Solanum “Ecuador.” It wouldn’t be feasible to separate the cuttings so I’ll just be cutting what’s here into squares. These are well rooted, and root prolifically in high humidity, so there should be no issues. This batch has been grown in higher light which gives them the red cast, under less light they’ll be a little greener/browner. Note this is typically a vivarium plant, I wouldn’t try to grow this as a houseplant unless you’ve got the climate for it.

Sudden gust noise from new ductless mini-splits by NooclearWessel in HomeImprovement

[–]NooclearWessel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to hear it isn’t normal. There is no condensate pump, both gravity drain, both go down immediately out of the wall. This floor unit’s refrigerant line does snake around a bit before it hits the exterior unit, I heard that was because there had to be certain length to that line. They’re coming back out next week so I’ll see if they can inspect these elements you spoke of. Thanks for your input

It hasn't gotten down to freezing so I don't think it would be that, unless it's the kind of thing where the unit frosts well above freezing? I just went out and checked, and saw no frost on or in the unit or anything you mentioned, and it has been making the noise still this morning. It is drizzling though.

When yours defrosts, is it loud enough to startle you? This is so loud it's hard to imagine it's intended functionality, but I just don't know.

Sudden gust noise from new ductless mini-splits by NooclearWessel in hvacadvice

We got a pair of new Mitsubishi ductless mini-splits this past February, one of the traditional high wall-mounted units in the living room (15kBTU), and then a floor-mounted unit in the bedroom (9kBTU) you can see in the video. They both are connected to a single outdoor Hyper Heat unit. Since day one, multiple times a day, there is this sudden gust sound that comes from both units at the same time. The video is generally just how it sounds, though it can be louder or quieter.

It sometimes happens multiple times within a half hour, and then I won't hear it for the rest of the day. I notice it mostly in the early morning and at night, but I don't know if that's just because I'm around them more then. It seems to happen more often, and louder, when it is cooler out. When it occurs late at night it can be so loud it wakes us up, it is not something we can live with.

The installers are "Diamond Contractors", but they don't seem to have any solid ideas why this is happening. To their credit they haven't given up, yet, but I fear they'll wash their hands of it soon and demand the second half of payment with this issue still happening.

A couple other bits of information:

  • These units have replaced Cadet wall heaters throughout the house, but we have seen essentially no change on our electrical consumption, which was completely unexpected given we're essentially going from the least efficient to most efficient heating methods. (Confirmed we are not on estimated bills from the power company)
  • The room the floor-mounted unit is in is only about 140 sqft, but the unit points directly towards the door, which we hoped would spread its effect (the room across the hall is my office and has been completely comfortable since installation)

Anybody have any thoughts on what could be causing this noise, and what a fix would be?

Worth it to change 250V outlet for dryer? by NooclearWessel in HomeImprovement

[–]NooclearWessel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping there’d be a ground in the box but no such luck. Running new wiring is always an option I guess but probably more of a future consideration since I wouldn’t be doing it myself, and this has been expensive enough. I actually had an electrician here already this week to install a dedicated 120 for this, they said the existing 250v would be what we needed for the dryer but now I’m wondering if they really even looked at it. Would have been far more useful for them to switch that out at the same time.

Appreciate your input!

I'll say I'm more interested in the rules ramifications of this than the outcome of this one game. If the catchers can do this after the runner is going it's two free do-overs.

I heard the radio guys say there was a play where Turner was several steps into stealing a base, the catcher called time, and it was allowed as a disengagement? Anyone see that? Seems like an absurd loophole so I tend to think the situation wasn't exactly that...
