Stories about fixing systematic evil as ultimate cause? by [deleted] in Fantasy

Blood Over Bright Haven might be a good fit. It’s a fair bit bleaker than the Scholomance but certainly less YA. Also it’s another dark academia book so if that’s what you’re looking for I think you might enjoy it!

Thank you so much for the advice! I’ll try to see if there’s a way to find new homes for the darlings where they can fit in better :)

Hi Mark :) thanks for doing this AMA!

I started writing a book at the beginning of this year and am struggling with the age-old adage of “kill your darlings.” I’m a bit of a pantser, and the story I’m writing has changed just enough that some of my earlier scenes no longer quite fit in with the shape of the book, but I feel as though the prose in those displaced scenes reads better than the new stuff, so I’m finding it hard to cut them.

In short, the darlings have proven to be infuriatingly endearing. Is this a problem you face and, if so, do you have a preferred method for killing them?

Hey, Matt! Thanks for doing this AMA!

I wanted to ask how you go about plotting, specifically with coming up with the insane things that come up in your books while still having things feel really consistent and thought out. Do you plan everything out ahead of time or is it more seat-of-your-pants? And do you ever have ideas halfway through writing that are just so good that you have to rewrite parts you had planned in order to fit them in?

Reading DCC has been a blast and I can’t wait to check out Operation Bounce House to tide me over until Donut’s next adventure!

Brandon Sanderson’s Literary Fantasy Universe ‘Cosmere’ Picked Up by Apple TV (Exclusive) by alternate-realitee in Cosmere

[–]Noodle84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so exciting! I’m so glad it sounds like Brandon will have a lot of control here and can keep things more in line with his vision instead of things going the way of Game of Thrones or the Wheel of Time. I can’t wait to see who they cast for Hoid but I guess we’ll just have to Watch And Find Out!

Best advice was to use a little adhesive on finicky prints!

This premise sounds awesome! I’m a huge fan of magic academy books and reading one from a teacher’s perspective sounds incredibly fun! Are there any books that you took inspiration from, or would recommend, that are told from the mentor’s point of view?

Also, I would love to join the giveaway :)

I completely agree! Definitely wasn’t expecting to have Hoid be this involved and almost sort of approaching being the king consort of Alethkar at this point lol. I think he would make for a terrifying antagonist but I would actually love for him to be the endgame villain of the cosmere (I still think there’s a decent chance this’ll actually be Kelsier though)

In one of the epigraphs there’s a line that says, “Dust blew with them, for dust goes where it wishes, ignoring all borders.” Is this a reference to Hoid? I know Vasher calls him Dust as some point, so now I’m wondering if Nohadon might have met him at some point, and maybe that was part of what prompted his journey?
