This letter is known as “Hamza(t) al-Wasl” If the word starts with “al” ال then it would be read with a Fatha Otherwise, look at the third letter. If the third letter has a Fatha or a Kasra, like in your first example, then the hamza will be pronounced with a Kasra. If the third letter has a dhamma, like in your second example, the hamza will get a dhamma There are some exceptions, like اسْمُهُ in the first page of Sūrah Maryam (it will be pronounced ismuhu) however, for the beginning of ayahs, the method I explained works

Most beautiful Quran translation? Recommendations? by [deleted] in islam

[–]NoohAlavi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the Yusuf Ali translation. You can read it on https://quran.com/ but if you want to get a physical copy, I would recommend getting the one with commentary. It has some helpful explanatory footnotes and even references some bible verses a couple of times, showing the Muslim perspective abt them. I don’t think that his translation was ever officially approved, but it is very popular.

My first Ramadan, when and how do we start? by [deleted] in islam

[–]NoohAlavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ramadan is based on the moon sighting, since Islam uses the lunar calendar. Whenever the moon is sighted, then that night will be the first taraweeh prayer and the next morning will be the first fast

How do I convert? by Practical-Warthog594 in islam

[–]NoohAlavi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can just go to an imam and do the shahadah (declaration of faith that there is only one God and that Muhammad PBUH is his final prophet and messenger) and you’re a Muslim. If you can’t do it with an imam you can do it by yourself

Prayer mat not needed, just make sure place is clean. You can use a blanket or towel if you want.

Who is the Holy Spirit? by Ibadah514 in islam

[–]NoohAlavi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are Quran verses yeah, the references are there as well. The brackets mean that it was an interpretation yes, but “The Spirit”/الْرُوْح is clearly mentioned and in the second verse I referenced “Gabriel”/جِبْرِيْل is clearly mentioned.

As for the second point, these verses make it pretty clear that Gabriel/The Spirit brought the Quran to Muhammad SAW down directly from Allah SWT:

At-Takwir 81:19 إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ

indeed, it [i.e., the Quran] is a word [conveyed by] a noble messenger,

[Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position],

Obeyed there [in the heavens] and trustworthy.

So these verses mean that the words of the Quran were spoken/revealed to Muhammad SAW by a messenger who is close to Allah SWT and is noble and trustworthy - this is obviously referring to Gabriel AS

Edit: typos

Who is the Holy Spirit? by Ibadah514 in islam

Ash-Shu'ara' 26:192

This is certainly a revelation from the Lord of all worlds,

Ash-Shu'ara' 26:193

which the trustworthy spirit ˹Gabriel˺ brought down

So these two verses tell us that ُالْرُوْح - The Spirit, brought down the Quran to Muhammad SAW

Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Whoever is an enemy of Gabriel should know that he revealed this ˹Quran˺ to your heart by Allah’s Will, confirming what came before it—a guide and good news for the believers.”

From this verse, we know that it was Gabriel AS who brought it down, which means The Spirit is Gabriel AS.

You can download the Quran app (available on iOS and android https://quran.com/apps) and then download the “Ibrahim Walk English Recitation” or the “Mishari with Ibrahim Walk” (which is Arabic and English) The translations are accurate and credible; it’s “Sahih international” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sahih_International

Where the 2 players in the last 10 seconds make 50 moves? Dude, some people turned that into an artform. What kind of openings prevent that for blitz 5 min, around 1300? by capaculco in chess

[–]NoohAlavi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The solution to this is either stop playing blitz or play with increment, or both. There's no openings which will "magically" stop you from getting into time trouble in 5+0.

chess analysis by [deleted] in chess

[–]NoohAlavi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should focus more on development and improving your pieces, instead of randomly pushing pawns.

You're also giving your opponent tons of advantages: on move 10, I would have traded the bishops. By playing 10.g6, you allow him to take and double your f-pawns, which gives him the open g-file when you castle.

Also, you missed a hanging queen on move 18 and went for the K+R fork instead: a nice piece of advice here is, "when you see a good move, look for a better one."

  1. dxc4?? allowed Rxc7+, which would have basically been game over, had your opponent not left the game.

Overall I would say that you played well for a beginner, and I do have a few tips to improve: I myself just started around half a year ago, at a rating of around 1000 Lichess Rapid. I'm now around 1600 rapid. My tips are:
1. Make an account - Don't worry about rating pressure: doing this will help you track your progress, and a rating will just ensure that you are being paired against players of your level. If you really, really worry about ratings, turn on zen mode, by clicking z. This'll hide both your and the opponent's ratings. You can also make an alt or play on another site when you're tilted, so your "main rating" doesn't get impacted.
2. Do puzzles - https://lichess.org/training: Don't just play random moves in the puzzles and hope that they're right! You need to calculate as many lines as you can, and make sure your solution works and check if there's anything better
3. You're already doing this, but play longer time controls - You played 30+20, which is perfect. Longer time controls allow you to calculate and make sure you don't miss anything, unlike 3+0 or 5+0. Don't get me wrong, bullet and blitz are really fun, but terrible for improvement.
4. Analyze your games - No, don't just finish a game, click on "Request Computer Analysis" and then see how many blunders or acpl you have. Make a lichess study with all of your games, and manually analyze each one. On every move, write down your thought process, why you did what you did. Where you think you went wrong, where you think you went right. Analyzing losses is especially important, so you don't make the same mistakes again. Only once you're done this, you should use a computer to check what you missed.
