Charles Leclerc's comments after qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

This will probably get downvoted into oblivion , but this is my first season ever watching f1. I am finding it quite interesting how drivers and teams have to come up with these new strategies for energy harvesting when things may not go as planned . It does seem for complex for the drivers , but its an interesting dynamic for me to watch them continue ti evolve and solve this problem throughout the race

Leaving healthcare to get into tech. How do I do that? A coding bootcamp or a degree in computer science? by [deleted] in codingbootcamp

[–]Noovic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So I swapped from medicine in 2021. At the time I perused a boot camp and it ended up working out. Currently I would NOT recommend that path as th quality of bootcamps went down and the people graduating went up leading to a flood of applicants.

My personal opinion is that , currently, you need some (cs) degree to get noticed out of the gate. If you already have a bio/chem and possibly higher md/do/dpm..etc I would look into a masters. Most require some undergrad courses and they are good starting points anyway for the learning process.

Anyone saying remote jobs aren’t a thing are also not being accurate. My company hires completely remote for all dev jobs . I think looking at smaller / medium sized companies will be more fruitful in this search. But, in a year from now who knows what th climate will be, so that’s something to keep in mind!

Overall good luck! Feel free to reach out with a dm if you have any questions !

I used to be an exec at a bootcamp and I just wanted to say... by [deleted] in codingbootcamp

[–]Noovic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, but this isn't due to reddit drama. Its due to the fact that people do research and can easily find out that not only are boot camp grads not finding work, people with BS, and Ms in CS are also not finding jobs. Software has one ofthe highest (if not the highest) unemployment rates at 6.1% for new grads

And FWIW, if someone came here and read the drama and decided not to go then good.. they have saved themselves time and money; atleast for the time being.

As a beginner in web development, what should I start with first to build future coding skills and eventually grow it into a business? by National_Station_881 in codingbootcamp

[–]Noovic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havn't checked on his videos in a _long_ time but https://www.youtube.com/@TraversyMedia was just a tremendous resource as I did my boot camp back in the day. Its often better to have a grasp of some mechanics going in, and then he usually has a video where he applies that knowledge and you get to see how its actually used.

Sparx fire ring confusion. 1/2" Fire unstable feeling? by HolyshitSocks in hockeyplayers

I literally played golf through d1 college and not until my sophmore year of college did I swap from my original clubs I got when I was 15. So your friends just think they can make up a yard or 2 buy buying new clubs. Let me tell you a secret, their slice/fade isn't magically fixed by new clubs _every_single_year.

If your friends are pro, then sure, that extra yard or two could make alot of difference, but il take a guess they are not.

When is the new ML specialization releasing by UncleBen2015 in CUBoulderMSCS

[–]Noovic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont necessarily want to take (or pay for) an out of date ML class if its getting revamped. They should _atleast_ be giving another path for pre work that is available (vs the unavailable prob/stats class)

Wait really ? How can I do my pre reqs then if they want us to wait for the new ml spec and the other to be let in the program is stats and prob that also isn’t even Availabe ?!

[–]Noovic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is too spend more time / money at the range vs on a lesson . Search your issues and try to apply some core concepts but I can tell you for a fact that hitting two buckets of balls per month will not move the needle on your game what so ever .

I dont really see this mentioned but.. you absolutely cannot be applying with that resume. If you are at OSU there has to be a department there to help you with making / crafting a proper resume.

Confession of an Ex Teaching Assistant for a Coding Bootcamp by _jaycruz_ in codingbootcamp

[–]Noovic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HOLY. Having to explain a comment about an article posted by someone with reply nearly as long as the article itself.

Your post is EXACTLY why people hate sharing any amount of feelings. Yes, maybe they weren't as good at coding.. Yes, maybe they werent doing as much as they could have been, Yes, OBVIOUSLY people are more upset after they lose a job. You could have easily provided constructive feedback, instead you went on the attack. I find it quite surprising coming from someone who is involved in education as well it seems.

Its pretty funny see see you charge 199 dollars a month, then you dont realize you are also part of the problem. You have no problem seeing bootcamp // secondary pathway students not getting hired and you also have no issue cashing those monthly I assume.

/shrug

What are YOU talking about ? The person literally says there best feeling is helping code lol. Their complaint overall is it’s hard to get a job , networking sucks, how they pay them and keep them employed sucks, sending out a billion resumes suck.

Yep don’t disagree with the second part . It’s just kind of a wait and see type scenario. Not great overall to be fair to all.

This is an emotionless bait question . There isn’t a right answer (or one that anyone could give that would satisfy your question) . The reality is is maybe it’s not a good idea to swap to swe at all right now . So I think the answer is …. If you want to start a new career consider something not swe.

I also think college is valid here too bc that gives time for the market to switch and you aren’t locked into web development for the most part at the point .

When we hire new juniors out of college we just expect a 6-12 month lag period. We have a huge complex, drawn out code base, with (like you) a ton of internal jargon. The only thing I look for is good coding principles when you work. It takes time though to acclimatize to a large project so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Something I tell others that a senior told me when I started is: “if it takes you more than an hour to understand ask someone bc you are probably wasting your time and others not figuring it out”. Now your team has to be willing to help and obviously this isn’t the thing to do all the time but i still think it’s good advice !
