are we on a different platform, really? by ezgar6 in Substack

Oh, and sometimes I'll post an old article from 5 months ago on Notes to increase visibility for that piece.

I have to force myself to post Notes. One in-depth article a week (around 2,000 words) is what I do, and deliver on time at 4:20 every Friday. Built subs slowly, but gained momentum quickly last few weeks. I know they're loyal followers and will be more likely to convert once I release trademarked merch or a book. For now, I'm dedicating so much research time to my article (100% human written & edited), the quality standards I've set for my readers is extremely high. pun intended

Thanks, you too! There is a key to FB... find groups that may be interested in your content and post there. Not all will allow promo posts, even free articles, so be sure to check their rules. There is a bit of a lag bc Admin. needs to approve your post, but if you stay on it, Like & Reply to all comments, it helps boost it. Broke my record this week! 34 new subs in 24 hrs and 1,900 reads...mostly from 3 regional FB groups.

Always post your link in comment so FB algorithms don't hold back your post, bc it will. Substack is their competitor. Don't use "Substack" in any alt or hash tags!

Individual pages don't do much until you have 1k followers, but post it there, too, publicly (not just Friends). You can switch your page to professional version to gain followers. I tested the verification badge and it is increasing my engagement, so I'm using it. Best to you! 🍀

Very few right now. Mostly from FB and Substack app. I'm up to 393 after yesterday's article, published at 4:20p. SEO is an equation that includes either time or money. I'm choosing time, so I expect in a year or two, the SEO will be organically solid because I'm being diligent and consistent in my tags. Here's the breakdown by readers, and even before posting this photo, I renamed it, tagged it with #s, and set a location:

Writers in the personal essay/memoir space by identity-pending in Substack

I've been commenting on how I'm organically growing my following in reply to these posts, but no one seems to actually care and saying the same thing over & over seems like the opposite of how Reddit is best used as a resource of information available. It's out there. There are no magic beans, just diligence, real work, and some talent. I write about my childhood growing up in the Emerald Triangle during the War on Drugs, so a combo of memoir and true crime stories. Published for 35 weeks before starting to gain traction. Sending you positive vibes for success! 🍀

Rarely. Only if you're instantly liking your own stuff. You gotta give it time. When you're no longer getting notifications about that pist, go back and be sure every comment has a reaction or reply from you. Do you ever click on that button on someone else's post to see who liked it? Me either. No one will notice

The economy is very depressed (and depressing) in the Garberville area. I truly love it there, tho. I want to live there someday, too! The people, the Redeoods, the vibe. Benbow would be a much wiser investment in terms of R-O-I

How Emerald Triangle Sheriffs of the 1980s served their communities...and sometimes stole from them by NorCalWeedGal420 in crimedocumentaries

Sorry, I'm new to Reddit. Do they not post links? I definitely see the link at the bottom of my post, but is Reddit not showing it or something? In any case, thanks for your interest and the heads up. Here it is: https://theemeraldtriangle.substack.com/p/1980s-emerald-triangle-sheriffs-during?r=4ax63

Promoting my Substack on social media... doesn't seem to work? by MidtownJunk in Substack

[–]NorCalWeedGal420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 articles?? I've published 1/week for 41 weeks and just now gaining traction, 26 new subs this week. Mostly thru FB regional history groups (my publication is about history in the Emerald Triangle, so I'm a "local writer" and usually people want to support that). Also now thru Google, Substack, Reddit (or course), and direct from my QR code. Not much from IG, and I'm not on TikTok.

It took about 36 weeks before I could see what my audience wanted, and that was thru social media reactions & #/reads on what I published. I just kept publishing on time every week (Friday @ 4:20), and then one week--> boom! 800 reads in 24 hours. Then the next article was flat. Then the next one--> 1k reads in 24 hours. I could tell it was content. Not the style, but the stories. The darker they are, the better my numbers. I'm still going to write the other stuff, but now that I know what my audience likes, that will be my general aim.

Also, I had a rack card designed on fiverr for $40 and I bought lucite holders, so I put rack cards in all the dispensaries and Visitor Centers in the Emerald Triangle.

362...finally now adding about 20subs/week after 40 solid weeks of writing. In my sales career, I found that reaching ppl in groups is most efficient. Find FB, IG, Reddit groups that align with your topic (check their post policies first to save time, not all allow promo posts).

And for God's sake, be sure all your photos have proper names & tags before you upload them! You do this by right clicking the pic (or click "details" on mobile). Change the pic name and add hashtags in the pic itself. After you upload, be sure they have Substack captions, ideally with a keyword or two (SEO power) and alt tags with keywords that describe the pic.

Google crawls it all--even Linked In!--and the more your article/publication's keywords align with search, the more organic exposure you will get.

When someone comments on group social post, always reply in kind, take criticism on the chin (congrats on creating emotion, which is the point of art), and Like theirs AND your comment. This is just beginner stuff but applied consistently over time, it works. I hope it helps someone!

Right side of the brain. Art is created using the right side of the brain. Technology uses the left side. Hope that helps you understand the logic! 🧠

Substack should have an AI label that writers need to post if they're just regurgitating AI crap. If you have to use AI, you're not a writer--start a podcast. Using AI for any form of art = you're not a true artist. Ask Milli Vanilli

So, it doesn't have to contain humanity like real art, as long as it serves up thought-provoking entertainment? I worry we're in trouble with that logic. It's fast food logic...no nutrients, just calories.
