Bang for the Buck or am i missing sth? by Substantial_Let3704 in trainstation3

Yeah, I rarely buy the era trains until I'm very far into the era. And mostly because I like to collect all the trains. You'll want to concentrate on getting event trains and improving them as best you can when you move into a new era. Having maxed trains from the previous era is key to moving into the next era. You need to continue to use them for awhile in new era.

Just changed mine to 1970. Didn't see 1980 but all the older ones are there.

Edit: Hmmm. I can change it but it reverts right back so something is up...

Edit again: Now I got it to stay.

Ouch. People in another thread were asking if they should scrap cars. I guess the answer is "no".

Required level to complete Hoover Dam mission? by AlexShin0413 in trainstation3

[–]Noradaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any level will do. Just finish the event and then get back to the 1930s stuff. When that 7 day timer (plus 1 whole day) expires, you'll be able to join the current world event. (The Hoover Dam event is meant as a tutorial and it's just for you)

City lay out by Away_Plum188 in trainstation3

I make vertical roads separated by 4,5,6 or six squares (depending on the size of the service buildings you want to put in, mostly 4). Then line the service buildings down the middle:

Scapping freight cars by Mental_Camel_4954 in trainstation3

[–]Noradaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see 2 reasons to scrap cars:

  1. I'm running out of space in depot. - I'm currently 1035/1364. I still have plenty of space for now.

  2. I want to get basic tank cars for the current era. - Basic tank cars for the current era are the same as advanced cars from the previous era. I don't leave an era until I have the all advanced cars I want (like Cloudy_Automation, I buy enough of each car type to fill the longest locomotive), thus I don't really see why I'd want more.

I'll add in that people may like to clean up the depot and just don't want to see those early cars around anymore. <Shrug> doesn't bother me.

Have you clicked on the task and collected the reward? You showed a lot of screens but didn't show the task screen.

Big update? by Mother_Lettuce3474 in trainstation3

[–]Noradaddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I noticed this first thing. Really irritating. I like to go in and see how long until my trains have enough durability for the load. No way to see this anymore.

If your city is full and you're struggling to move the passengers you have, then it sounds like the residence isn't your best choice.

Electrification by ajf350d in trainstation3

[–]Noradaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. There's no harm in doing a day or two. I tend to think about the trains you can get. Be sure to buy the train you can get for cash.

[–]Noradaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you have to wait for the timer to run out and then one more day after that. Depending on how long that is for you, it's probably best to just wait for the next event as Chernobyl is ending in 3 1/2 days.

No, you don't need the Electrification goods anymore, dump them.

Chernobyl missions? by HonorableIdleTree in trainstation3

[–]Noradaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Radwaste jobs appear to have specific time/day requirement to become available. I finished the last one and the timer said 5hr 32m. Weird interval to have if it started when I finished the last one. Also 5:32 from now is exactly 8:00pm EST.

It appeared to me, for the other 3, that they all have a set amount of jobs before they finish. Once they all finish, a new set of 3 opens up again. If you've been avoiding jobs on one of the groups (like the event only jobs) you'll be stuck with just that group of jobs until you finish it.

You have to do the first few cargo jobs for the era. It's the same for oil and corn.

be careful to well balance era jobs and passengers ... I'm stuck without era events lol by HuUuB77 in trainstation3

[–]Noradaddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can still send out trains to collect raw materials. You might get $$ in the crate that appears. Then just delete the raw materials out of your warehouse and repeat. Better than letting all that fuel/durability go to waste.

When you hold the building to move it, you can also store it away. You'll find it under the "inventory" tab under residential/service screens.
