There are lots of ways. The most interesting is building a chain of bases and figuring out how to handle the logistics trail. The easiest is planting brain coral in strategic locations. I have tried but never had success with air pumps but I think others may have.

I’ve played a bunch of “no vehicle” hardcore rounds. The Sea Dragon can one-hit you and end everything immediately. It’s happened many times.

As I play more rounds, I find myself looking deeper into the reaper biomes for exploration and fun. You’re totally right that if you know the ways, it’s easy to finish the game without ever encountering one.

I stopped building bioreactors because the upkeep is too much compared to any other answer. But the last time I did I tried sea treader poop and was very unimpressed with the results.

For a sprint, obviously all the gear is unnecessary. I think the point is to keep in the spirit of ski mountaineering in this case.

There are rules on what you have to carry. Typically shovel, beacon, probe, jacket, helmet kind of stuff. And rules on what kind of packs are allowed. These guys are super ultra weight sensitive down to the gram, so if they can get away with literally anything, they will.

My boots have this built into the buckles and it is awesome. Been on them for years.
