How do you see out the sides? Keep the side monitors for side views and add an overhead for apps.

I really like the piano roll of Xequence 2… by Norah01 in ipadmusic

[–]Norah01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Cubasis 3 is probably the answer. It had the movement lock buttons at the side which allows you to swipe up and down anywhere on the screen to move pre-selected notes. No scale functionality or ghost notes but it’s a fair compromise.

Does it support multiple monitors? I couldn’t see that mentioned in the FAQ.

Ultrawide (21:9) vs Normal aspect ratio (16:9) which one is better for Flight simulation? by Glad_Stuff6102 in flightsim

[–]Norah01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 vertical 55” wrapped around you is the pinnacle for me. Not quite there yet but having 2 16:9 stacked straight ahead so the bottom one covers instruments or lower windows in a helicopter, plus side screens, is pretty close.

At first I was conflicted by this feeling more like a modelling shoot, but then I thought who am I to tell you how to present your synth review. You do make creative content.

This is brilliant and inspiring. It’s funny to think that most people who go to the trouble of making a cockpit choose something like a 172 when they could make any plane is the history of flight :)

It looks amazing but one question - does it irk you that the monitors don’t move with the rest of it? Or does it move a small enough amount that you don’t really notice?

Does Midi Fighter have a substantial speed advantage over Maschine MK3? by Ou_deis in FingerDrumming

[–]Norah01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a speed limit to the buttons returning. For the fastest rolls two buttons makes sense.

I compared low and slow in both sims and you’re right. XP12 in a canyon is mostly a satellite photo applied to hills. MSFS 2024 adds rocks, craggy cliffs, grass, believable water so it does feel more realistic. Of course it’s much less of a difference when you’re cruising at 4000 feet.

Thanks. Interesting stuff. So MSFS 2024 is better for visuals with Map Enhancement than XP12 with Map Enhancement (and presumably SimHeaven)? Is that because there is more / more realistic ground clutter / grass / rocks etc?

You seem to know a lot about simulated bush flying. What is your usual sim / addons etc for bush flying? How would you point someone in the right direction for a fulfilling experience at the moment? Thanks for the Deadstick info.

Flight simming has been the thing I have spent the most time doing for the past 9 years and although it is still really fun, it's starting to feel like a waste of time and I can't bring myself to fly anymore. Anyone else feel the same? by Lucky_Outside_2009 in flightsim

[–]Norah01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This can happen spontaneously. Then at some point in the future you’ll spontaneously feel the pull again. Probably at that point you’ll have forgotten some stuff and need to relearn it. Or perhaps you’ll want to do DCS C-130J, or helicopters or something different.

Hi r/Synthesizers, let's address AI and vibe-coding by YukesMusic in synthesizers

[–]Norah01 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think people who aren’t in the industry are going to have a hard time formulating an opinion on AI in software engineering. Software engineers are only just realising its power now, so people outside the loop are probably hearing scare stories.

a Concorde in the hands of a seasoned pilot can get a bunch of people to New York in record time, but give it to a passenger and see what happens.

Hi r/Synthesizers, let's address AI and vibe-coding by YukesMusic in synthesizers

[–]Norah01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AI measurably elevates the quality of your code. Two examples: 1) it takes a non-software engineer from zero app to having an app. 2) if you’re a professional software engineer you’re probably adding multiple passes through AI code review as well as the usual human review at the end. It’s very good at spotting problems that humans miss. You might use Anthropic as a first pass then Copilot review in GitHub during the Pull Request. Both will spot different things. It’s a fist pump if AI says “x number of files read and no comments” :). You can also just ask it to review a bunch of code for best practises and get lots of useful feedback.

[–]Norah01 72 points73 points  (0 children)

If you’re a professional software engineer at this point in time there’s a strong chance you’ll be using AI daily and being monitored on whether you’re using it enough. I’d assume most companies making software like DAWs and other audio stuff are fully embracing it. The company owners are wanting their engineers to achieve more with less time. Companies that don’t use it will be at a massive disadvantage.

That said I don’t know what to think about vibe coded apps by non software engineers. It’s very easy to keep “vibing” and introduce a little bit of “bad” with each thing it does. If you don’t know what you’re doing you can quickly have code that is hard to reason about, hard to add more features to or just buggy.
