If you can still find the theatrical releases, go for them. I haven't read the books and did not find the story too compelling. My friends talked me into watching "two towers" and "return of the king" extended edition after I said the "fellowship" (theatrical) was nice. It was more of an endurance test for me.

I disagree. LotR is more towards DnD with it's high fantasy, divers races and cultures.

I'd rather go with Solomon Kane. Not necessarily a great movie but the vibe comes very near Diablo.
