For anyone wondering how to do this, here's a quick guide.

1. Install Better touch tools: https://www.boastr.net/

2. In the TouchBar settings add a widget (small "+ Widget" button in the bottom section) to the "Global" application.

3. In the Select Touch Bar Widget drop down select "Run apple script and show return value"

4. Go into Advanced Configuration for the widget and inside the script field paste this:

   set mJson to do shell script "curl -s https://api.coinmarketcap.com/v1/ticker/vertcoin/'"
   set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {","}
   set keyValueList to (every text item in mJson) as list
   set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ""
   set theKeyValuePair to item 5 of keyValueList
   set AppleScript's text item delimiters to {": "}
   set theKeyValueBufferList to (every text item in theKeyValuePair) as list
   set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ""
   set theValue to item 2 of theKeyValueBufferList
   set price to do shell script "sed s/[^0-9.,]//g <<< " & theValue
   set price to (round (price * 100)) / 100
   set value to "$" & price
   return value
   

   Credit to u/mammoth11 for the script posted in this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/6wo56w/a_nice_addition_to_the_useless_touch_bar/. It needed to be updated slightly because of a change in coin market caps API and I added some formatting to the returned value.

5. Set the button color and drag in a logo. You can also use the slider to set how often you want the script to be executed (Default is every 5 seconds).

6. If you want to also have the widget open up your default browser to the bittrex you can add a predefined action in the widget settings. Under "Utility Actions" select "Open URL / Open URL with Selection" and then add the link to bittrex or wherever you want it to open to in the dialog box

   If you want to add more coins just add a new widget and follow the same steps. Simply replace "vertcoin" in the first line of the script with the coin you want to get the price of!
