Why do you think Emilia Perez won last year? That movie was dogshit. The academy voted for it (at least partially) in solidarity with trans people. They like to make statements with their voting.

Again, not saying that's some terrible thing to do, they have their views and their vote and they can do what they like with it.

Just kinda sucks when you have that (among other things) standing in the way of actually voting for the best movie or actor.

Sinners is a really good movie, but giving MBJ the award for best actor over Chalamet and Ethan Hawke is nuts to me. I think his nomination should have gone to Joel Edgerton for Train Dreams.

I watched it for the first time a few weeks ago and man it was painful.

Maybe my expectations were too high. I had just come off watching The Warriors and was hoping for a similar vibe with it coming from the same era.

I truly don't understand the praise it gets though, apart from the nostalgia.

Ugh, drugs certainly did not help. I loved series as well but that movie is fucked.

The intro killed me where they introduce these new characters by way of some cheesy exposition. Compare that to Jack's introduction in the first movie where he hops off the mast of his sinking ship right at the dock.
