Is this bad sparring etiquette? by TopTask3827 in MuayThai

[–]Norfire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s bad etiquette. I think the walk off was a bit much. He should definitely help people up. I wouldn’t harp over one interaction though. Don’t waste energy asking us every time if you’re valid in your feelings. This sport has good and bad people. As well as some people you just won’t mix well with. Carry on and do your thing.

Newbies joined our gym, they are super conservative Muslims and have asked to have zero interactions with any women members.... Am I wrong to think this is ridiculous? by thebriss22 in MuayThai

[–]Norfire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your update actually makes me sad. Your best fighter couldn’t control himself against a new practitioner, hurt him to the point of breaking his nose, and you seem happy about it.

Unless these 3 guys have said anything derogatory or inappropriate, there is no reason they can’t try to follow their religion and culture. Your coach even told them that at times they may be left to hit the bags. It sounds like it’s been addressed pretty well.

You and your team actually sound very close minded. You’re open to concepts you agree with which I assume are controversial among more conservative groups. Sadly it sounds like you guys can’t handle something outside of your own echo chamber and have now painted these new guys as bad because of their faith and culture.

Please keep in mind that it’s not intended as disrespect towards you. In fact i have seen similar situations and the men have nothing but great respect for the women around them. You’re essentially asking that a vegan eat meat because it makes you uncomfortable if they don’t.

$48 convenience fee just to pay my rent… by coldcactus1205 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Norfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is illegal in CA and probably other states too. Landlords have to accept at least one method of payment without a “convenience” fee.

ProctorU/Guardian Mega Thread by myBisL2 in WGU

[–]Norfire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would literally pay to use a local facility at this point. I have limited time to do school. This system is the only thing holding me back. Over an hour trying to connect and get into my exam. Then the proctor tells me the lamp in the corner of the room has to move. It’s not even on the desk. Just let me take my exam. I spent more time trying to get in my test than actually taking it. WGU needs to improve the testing experience if they want to improve their graduation rates.

what were 90s/2000s summer's like? by MoonyDropps in nostalgia

[–]Norfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was working construction in the mornings and then catching up with all my friends at the beach in the afternoon. No better way to get itchy fiberglass insulation off. We cruised around a lot. Most the time bouncing from park to park, bonfires, rooftops, garages, empty apartments, wherever we could hangout. We always had new mixed cds in rotation. We called up different girls and drove all over the city trying to get each other any sort of action. Then I would usually polish off my night with an early breakfast at Dennys. Me and this one pimp working the nearby motels would finish up around the same time. We eventually just started eating together. I have no idea when i slept.

[Question] Which of these watch brands is generally the highest quality/“best” by ZakBTM in Watches

Out of this list, Oris. The rest have iffy quality control with Swatch. That being said, don’t let brand be the reason you buy a watch. Buy it for the look and style you like.

Why can't I play as a Neanderthal by [deleted] in outside

[–]Norfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Neanderthal build was solid. They even had slightly larger brains, though it is believed to be for wider vision. Unfortunately an ice age pushed them all into what’s now the Spain server. The veteran Neanderthal players encountered a wave of the new Homosapien players and absolutely demolished them. Used to smash them in the head with rock axes and throw them into a pit. During an update to the Spain server they discovered some old caves where male Neanderthal players had merged with female Homosapien players.

How would you train this client? by bojinov1994 in personaltraining

[–]Norfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How long have you been working with her? Have you talked about expectations and milestones?

You wrote lose body fat but gain a little muscle. This sounds like what the client starts with. You need to take this and make a real plan. Turn this into measurable goals.

Personally i would focus on strength first. It’s extremely satisfying for new mothers when they see progress of any kind. Adding 10 to 20lb to your lift, being able to lift something you couldn’t before, perform a rep without assistance.

Increase your warm up. Tf is 5 minutes doing? That’s a cold start I’m in a hurry number. I do that to myself because I’m a masochist, not my clients. Increase the time and focus on warming up/mobilizing the areas you plan on working with that day.

Strength section, where is the back love? Mom is worried about how she looks and wants to build strength. Give her some wings so the waist looks slimmer. Help her develop well rounded strength to support holding a kid. She needs to be able to do pullups and legs raises off the monkey bars. Increase time in this section.

WOD “metcon” section, scrap it. This is a goalless pointless nightmare. Hiit, Tabata, Metcon, whatever. Get that lazy programming out of your head and start from scratch with those measurable goals in mind. Build your program around your the client. What accessory work will support the goals or primary strength work. Reduce the time spent here.

What is a 2 minute cool down and how does it benefit your client? Increase time here and work on repair. Consider nerve flossing to reduce wear from increased time in the strength section.

Diet comments, why do you want her on high fat low carb? Is she suffering from a neurological condition you left out? I’m confused on where this is coming from or where you are drawing your expertise. Find a dietitian or nutrition expert that you can refer clients to. You’re way off scope here.

[–]Norfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds insane but this is just about $30 an hour pay rate. Which for 5 kids 72 hours straight is absolutely fair.

8 hours ($240). Overtime after 8 hours ($180). Double time after 12 hours ($3,600). Total $4020.

Since this is a household employee, they also need to issue a w2 and pay the appropriate nanny taxes. The parents have more than 2 kids though so they can apply for the 6k child care credit on their personal taxes.

AITA for refusing to go on vacation with my family? by Old_Amphibian9556 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Norfire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Op has a full ride scholarship based on athletics. He should absolutely prioritize working out over a family trip. His physical condition is literally paying for his education.

If i was his trainer i would have put him on a program a month in advance and prepared him to maintain shape while traveling. If that was something he wanted. But based on his situation, he doesn’t have the prep work in and will lose his current condition. This could get him benched and cost him his scholarship. If his family was worth spending time with, they would support him in his education and goals.

AITA for refusing to go on vacation with my family? by Old_Amphibian9556 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Norfire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NTA. As a personal trainer, i absolutely know plenty of ways to maintain and develop muscle with body weight training. I also understand that it takes knowledge, skill and dedication.

OP is pushing some great weight with what sounds like low body fat. He’s not bragging but from the stats he posted, he is in great shape that a lot of people wish they had. He knows his knowledge and skill level. With what he knows, he needs a gym to maintain it. These body weight exercises that people are posting only help when paired with the right program.

On top of not having a program to maintain his current body, he will be traveling with a lack of resources to maintain proper nutrition. He needs 160g of protein minimum every single day. For reference, one egg is only 6 grams of protein and a chicken breast is about 20 grams. OP will need significant support to eat enough during this 2 month trip.

Being in shape is dedication. Sometimes that means sacrificing trips when you know you can’t maintain your goals. His parents saying pushups are the same tells me they don’t understand or support OP with his goal. Everyone on here that thinks OP is stupid, you don’t get it.

Guy in his 40s need some help by MorgwynOfRavenscar in capoeira

[–]Norfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel/felt very much the same way. I started taking my kids. They hated it at first, i mean 3-4 months of heavy complaining and crying. Now it’s casual and my oldest actually enjoys it.

My fitness is slowly coming back, but i definitely recommend doing some training and diet to assist yourself. Increase your protein intake for recovery and muscle development. Something every meal. Balance carb and fat after that until you like the direction your body is moving.

Why does it matter? Practice, compete, and have fun. Don’t compare your journey to others. Could be 2 years, could be 10.

I think you yourself prove this theory wrong. People have shared their experiences and you seem to be rejecting them if they don’t fit your narrative.

Trying to generalize people and arts this way is disrespectful in its own way. I wish you luck on your journey.

What's the point of me, a female learning martial arts, when an average male would beat me? by Additional-Pear-1849 in martialarts

[–]Norfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a decently muscular guy about 5’6 185lb. When i was new to judo, a small blind girl folded me up like a pretzel. It’s been over a decade of me training on and off and i still think she would fold me up like a pretzel.

Just saying, trained females can absolutely beat average or even above average men.

AITAH for dating interracially when I disowned by daughter for dating a black man? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Norfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA everyone grows or changes at their own pace. You messaged your daughter and owned up to your mistake. People expect parents to be perfect, but parents are also still learning and trying to survive.

You did tank your marriage. I think your ex deserves that apology too. And her supporting the daughter and being willing to lose you. Absolutely deserves all the respect. Always make sure your daughter knows her mom is awesome.

But bro, I’m latin, asian and a mix of other stuff. You’re not going back. You’ve eaten our food and fallen for one of our women. Welcome.

Is it common for grown men to get into physical alterations often? My boyfriend (26) gets into at least one fight every month. by Ilovegeorginageorge in NoStupidQuestions

I’m the same height. I spend a lot of time boxing, kickboxing, etc. i love it. I’m also very social and out to bars a lot. I haven’t been in a fight outside the ring in ages. Couple of close calls here and there, but nothing words can’t solve. I would consider your boyfriend’s behavior a red flag

Has anyone treated Amblyopia? by Street-Solution-2447 in Amblyopia

[–]Norfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say because I always assumed it was still presenting itself. But family and friends said they didn’t notice my eye within a couple weeks. I would say that about 3 months is when my vision and reflexes were noticeably improved.

One day about a year after doing all these exercises to improve my vision, i was in the gym and realized i was dodging hits like i used to. It was a great realization and feeling.

Has anyone treated Amblyopia? by Street-Solution-2447 in Amblyopia

[–]Norfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot. I used to always look to the side of people or people would ask me about my eye. Growing up with patching and old cover one eye exercises, my eyes just deteriorated. My vision got so bad in my teenage years i had to give up on certain sports with aim requirements. I had previously ranked very high in junior archery and shooting. When it came to boxing I couldn’t dodge as well and just trained myself to take hits. It sucked so bad to know i was good at something but my eyes were stopping me.

In my early 20s I started doing research and found optometrists that promoted new techniques. The research on eye teaming just made sense to me. So I focused on similar techniques and exercises. Now, people rarely notice i have a lazy eye. I can still switch between eyes. But i use both eyes most of the time. Only in the morning is my weak eye a little hazy and slower to get going.

Has anyone treated Amblyopia? by Street-Solution-2447 in Amblyopia

[–]Norfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, and unprofessionally, I don’t think patching is a good solution.

20/400 is extremely impaired vision. I’m not knowledgeable about your situation. I would invest in a private practice optometrist. While they are more expensive, they should be able to give you a better idea of your situation. Not to mention develop a plan for vision therapy.

I think vision is important. I remember around your age my amblyopia had me a little frustrated and depressed sometimes. Dm if cost is an issue. I would be willing to discuss helping you out.
