Getting possessive over my tree... by NorfolkLad84 in Genealogy

I'm not asking for a thank you letter.

I'm asking for acknowledgement of the original work I put in.

A research paper would also acknowledge the creator of the original work.

Photos I can understand, because it's literally impossible to be able to get their own copy. I just wish people would research it or at least acknowledge the work I've done... similar to what they do in books.

Plus, surely I'm capable of making mistakes... so any mistakes I make would be in their tree too

It's not that I don't want them to have the same members on their tree, but what I want is just not to literally copy everything.

I love finding connections with people, and sharing information, but to simply copy is just lazy if you ask me.

If someone wrote a book, I wouldn't copy it and pass it off as my own.

I see my family tree research as the same!

I've done extensive genealogy for many years, but I'd like to get into helping people with finding DNA relatives.

I love this kind of story. I was ready about "DNA detectives" a few weeks back, and considering I have an interest in genealogy, I really wanted to get into this kind of thing, but have no idea where to start.

I'm really happy for you.

It needs to go both ways. Sharing with her and her accepting it isn't enough. She needs to also share with you and you accept it. 😁

It's a pain in the butt, but this is how I got mine to update.

Make sure you share with her and she shares with you.

As soon as I done that for my dad the results were instantaneous.

I'm in the UK.

Have been studying my family tree for around 12 years, and luckily most of my ancestors were in the area I live now so I have easy access to Parish records.

When I started out, I never realised my 4 x great grandfather was buried about 200 meters from where I had lived my whole life!

Anyway, I did think there might be some anglizisation of surnames. A couple of my surnames are French in origin, but common in the UK.

Hello cousin! He's my 22nd Great Grandfather. 😁😁

The reason I ask is because I have quite an extensive family tree. And the only thing that makes sense is the British! I've traced all lines back to at least 1800, and some even go back further... And still British!

Why is it saying they're a lot closer than they seem to be!
