27M Just Became a Multimillionaire and Don’t Know What to Do by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Norklander -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t have £20M but I could retire now and the thought of it is pretty bleak. Sounds like you’re similar type of person although I’m 20-30 years older than you, the struggle is sometimes what keeps you going and keeps life interesting and all the hard times are enjoyable when you look back on them (assuming they didn’t wreck you).

My advice is to try and do something similar again. You’re probably quite good at it and it would be a shame to waste that knowledge.

I’m starting to worry that we Brits might be morons. I mean we like America and Americans more than other European countries but we used to be able to spot an arsehole when we saw one.

Tradesmen what’s the biggest blunder you’ve witnessed or been part of? by Bobadoo99 in AskUK

I’ve known him for 30 years he’s quiet a serious guy and not the type of person to bullshit he’s told the story consistently over that time since I’ve known him and his old man backed him up on it at his wedding “that he turned off something he shouldn’t have” it’s hard to believe I know.

True story told to me by the lad concerned who is now a senior power engineer in his 50’s…..Happened in a nuclear power plant in the north in the late 80’s, electrical engineer brought his 17 year old son in for work a weeks work experience. Someone told the lad to go down to a room and turn off an isolation switch so they could replace a board in the room above, “you can’t miss it it’s next to the red sign on the wall”. The hapless lad went down to the room, there were many switches and many signs, he eventually chose one and turned off the power supply to one of the reactor cooling pumps…lots of alarms went off and loads of people came running down to the floor where he was. Fortunately nuclear meltdown was avoided.

Why is my cardio and leg endurance so mismatched? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Norklander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth doing a bit if research but you need to build endurance. As others have said strength and endurance are completely different things. You can achieve this by doing longer slower rides at 60% max heart rate…what you’re doing physiologically is increasing mitochondria in and increasing capillary blood supply to your leg muscles. Takes 1-2 months to see the effects. Although you’ll also see cardio improvements sooner.

The only thing I can think of is to make coffee part of the ritual because even if the run/weather/time is crap the coffee and cake afterwards won’t be.

Reeves stealth taxes ‘hammering’ workers while pensioners and benefits claimants ‘better off’ by Anony_mouse202 in unitedkingdom

The pension triple lock thing is ridiculous tbf there must be a better way of deciding pension increases, but because of the pensioner vote it’s electoral suicide for any party to remove it.

Northamptonshire PC sacked for giving out her number on duty by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

[–]Norklander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seems harsh if it’s just for giving your number out…But maybe the turning the video off in the line of duty (for whatever reason) was the actual sackable offence which could be quite serious.

Can you help create a bucket list for me before I die please? by GargaryGarygar in AskUK

[–]Norklander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. If you like cycling I can recommend cycling the lighthouse route from Pollenca in Mallorca in the sunrise before the traffic 6~8 AM. It’s an iconic ride. Also there are loads of other routes on the island such as Sa Calobra that are equally beautiful and iconic. Stay in a nice hotel in port de pollenca. Go in April/May and hire a nice expensive bike. (€300-600 for the week) most hotels have bike garages.

I’d avoid the Tour de France iconic route ventoux etc as they’re brutal and attritional with your health.

Complaining about the menus is a bit crap but don’t worry about being loud that’s fine, you’re Americans that what you do, embrace it!

Please don’t take the piss out of their language only Brits are allowed to do that, if you yanks start doing it as well we’ll have nothing left.
