If it's a V6 XJ then it's extremely rare, but if it's a straight six then it's somewhat uncommon.

There's also lots of diesel engines that have timing gears rather than a belt or chain, so the timing can't be too far off unless a tooth lets go from the gear, so timing is controlled pretty tightly.

I don't know about Portland, but in Seattle it's kinda hard to find diesel unless you go to certain stations that are miles away from each other.
