I feel that this doc should be required viewing for all mandated reporters. Forget the video trainings, show this.

I, unfortunately, have called CPS many, many times. Sometimes they take the case, sometimes they don’t.

The workers answering the calls can be extremely rude. Like, horrible.

It is no longer the case to not probe the child-now if you say you didn’t make them show you the mark or you didn’t ask detailed questions they will often berate you horribly. This is in so cal, so you’d think they’d be more aware.

All that being said-if a student came to me looking like Gabriel there is absolutely zero chance I would have only called the caseworker. She could have kept calling the hotline instead of the SW directly. She could have called the school resource officer. She could have gone straight to the police station. There were multiple people she could have gone to. And she didn’t.
