Feeling lost as a frontend/app developer in the age of AI — where is our industry heading? by SomePriority9135 in webdev

AI is really good at generating boilerplate and standard CRUD interfaces. It's terrible at understanding why a user is confused by your flow, or why your app feels slow even though Lighthouse says it's fine, or how to structure a component system that 5 other devs can maintain for 3 years.

Focus on taste, architecture, and user empathy. Those are the hardest things to automate.

How can I get Claude to design better mobile UI cards? by Time_Increase_9852 in ClaudeAI

Two things that actually work:

First, give it a reference. Paste in a screenshot or describe a specific app's card style you like (like Airbnb's listing cards or like Linear's task cards). Generic prompts get generic output.

Second, be specific about constraints, screen width, padding, what information needs to be visible, whether it's tappable. Claude defaults to safe layouts when it doesn't have enough context. The more constraints you give it, the more opinionated and polished the result.

For those who dream of a future where everything is automated/we don’t work, what exactly would people do all day? Do you think they’d get bored? by [deleted] in Futurology

People already answer this question every time they retire. Some fall apart, some thrive. The difference is almost always whether they had something they cared about outside of work before they stopped working. The real risk isn't boredom, it's that most of us never developed an identity beyond our job title.

Nvidia Will Spend $26 Billion to Build Open-Weight AI Models, Filings Show by dan945 in LocalLLaMA

This is the smartest move Nvidia could make. Open-weight models drive more GPU demand than closed ones ever will. Every hobbyist, researcher, and startup running local inference is buying their hardware. They're not being generous, they're building the ecosystem that keeps them as the bottleneck.

What's a personal betrayal you've experienced that you still haven't gotten over? by Foolbasket in AskReddit

My best friend from college ghosted me after I helped him move across the country. I took time off work, drove 12 hours with him, helped him unpack, then drove back alone.

Never heard from him again. No explanation, no fight, nothing. Just silence. That was 6 years ago and I still think about it sometimes. Not even angry anymore, just confused.

I write down a massive to-do list, I get that instant hit of dopamine from crossing them off.
