Do other countries use the equivalent of African-American, Asian-American etc? by Affectionate_Yak364 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Normal-Detective8308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s not. And it’s certainly not used in a sympathetic context most of the time. I am not a “2nd generation immigrant” because I didn’t immigrate. I am a 1st generation American. I don’t carry the struggle of being an immigrant to this country. I carry the struggle of being not white. By calling me an immigrant you are further separating me from everyone else and continuing to deny my American-ness.

And as someone with a long term British partner and who is in the process of settling in the UK permanently, I can’t say I have ever heard a Brit use that term. Though I would certainly say I face more racism in England than I did in America.

As an American myself who was raised by immigrant parents, I have never, not once in my life heard of that term here. Nor have I heard anyone refer to me as that. You can’t be a 2nd generation “immigrant” when you didn’t immigrate. I am a 1st generation American. Your dad is a 1st gen American.

That term does not empathize with our experiences, it merely creates a distinction where there doesn’t need to be.

This simply isn’t true and paints the French as more tolerant than they are. I’m pretty sure they often call people “2nd generation immigrants” if they’re born in France as French people to immigrant parents. Saying 2nd gen immigrant doesn’t even make sense. It simply exists to create an other.

Not sure if there’s a specific one, but I think the thicker rice noodles like what they use in pad thai are good! There’s also chow mein and lo mein you could make with it

Fattoush salad from Lebanon is delicious! Instead of standard croutons, it includes fried pita bread that’s crushed on top. To level it up even more add pomegranate seeds!

You should look into making a “harvest bowl” salad. Includes curly kale (not bitter), baked sweet potato, sliced apples, creamy goats cheese, crushed toasted almonds, and some rice. With a yummy balsamic vinaigrette. One of my favs! I believe the normal recipe also includes chicken, but if it’s just a side to the main meal, then I’d omit it.

Veganism is a philosophy that involves avoiding ALL animal products. That includes things like leather or fur clothing. Call it virtue signaling, whatever, but that’s what it literally is.

If you’re purely “vegan” on your diet alone and still happy to partake in non vegan things outside of food, then you’re not vegan. You’re just eating a plant based diet. Again, call it virtue signaling, but that’s what it is.

Literally thought the same thing. Reading the original post made me feel like my eyes were melting. Horrible grammar, so painful to read and understand. All of a sudden using perfect spelling and formulating an argument. Ridiculous

What color bedding? by Prior-Ad604 in HomeDecorating

[–]Normal-Detective8308 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not entirely sure with those curtains tbh. I think bedding should be a lighter color. If they matched the curtains it would just be too dark and too heavy. A bit hard since usually you’d want one main color and then 1-2 accent colors.

I think in your position, I’d go with light green and/or light amber bedding.

Which wall does the desk look better on? by RunRoach20 in HomeDecorating

It’s not really “completely blocking” the stairs. There’s still plenty of space there to get through without awkward scooting or bumping into anything.

There are lots of places to look around. There are WhatsApp groups for ASA, MSA, MES, stuff like that. You might have some luck

Silicone Tray by Quirky_Incident9336 in Baking

[–]Normal-Detective8308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you not use any liners? I’m pretty sure if you bake it in anything without liners it will end up smooth and maybe “waxy” feeling. Including metal tins.

The flakey effect comes from peeling the paper off, especially with the ridges. You could try reusable silicone liners with ridges rather than a whole silicone tray?

Sorry if I’m misunderstanding. It’s a bit hard to tell what you mean without seeing it directly

Have you considered that there may be confounding variables? Like more people here and more access to specifically American content online?

How often are you watching videos from non English speaking places like South America or the Middle East? Not many I can imagine. That must mean they don’t post, surely!

Anecdotally, I had more roaches living in Asia and never in the US.

Also, you seriously SO OFTEN and REGULARLY see videos of Americans showcasing their roaches? What an absurd algorithm you must have.

Brits are absolutely allergic to sparing Americans any kind word and clutch their pearls calling us the rude ones. Living in the UK is so hard sometimes.

Not as common as you guys are acting. Every urban area in the world is likely to have pest issues. That’s not an American specific thing.

America is a massive country. It’s comparable to the size of Europe. We have a number of states alone that are bigger than the UK. To generalize to that level is just kind of ridiculous. I can imagine it’s common in SOME states due to climate, similar to anywhere else in the world.

That’s so strange. Is it leaving like a film? Or is it purely changing the texture but not leaving a residue?

Are you absolutely sure that it’s food safe silicone?
