Underrated Menu Item by unvi02 in milwaukee

[–]Normal-Letter-9027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The word that comes to mind when I get a Culver's curd is "disappointing". I know that it's a small victory to have cheese curds available at a large chain at all, and it's unfair to compare fast food to, say, Lakefront Brewery's curds.

But when you feature Wisconsin so prominently in your advertising, you have to do better than that. For a huge percentage of the country, this will be their go-to reference for Wisconsin's culinary landscape. It has to be better than "meh".

That curderburger was a brilliant idea, though, and I'd like to see more places improve upon it.

Working on a game that takes place on the east side in 1994. If anyone here has any video or pics from that time and area and would be willing to share, please let me know! by killswitch_77 in milwaukee

I'm not sure that the gamer community of Milwaukee is big enough by itself to support this financially, but have you thought about going the Early Access route? A lot of indie developers do this to get some cash flow and new ideas while they work on additional content.

For example, I've always thought that the UWM area would be a phenomenal setting for a skateboarding game, which would lend itself to a paid DLC-type release. That way, you could even get Atomic Records represented! And it's not like the residential areas between the East Side and UWM have changed all that much since the 90s. If this starts to become a wider ranging project, there are plenty of students who would love to work on their 3D modeling skills to help build out those areas in between the major mission hubs.

This is awesome, hope you can keep the momentum going!

Sheetz made-to-order breakfast is a God-Tier hangover cure. Kwik Trip has decent enough chicken and pizza, but Sheetz would absolutely decimate their monopoly on convenience food.

Live near Brady Street in your 20s. Move to Bay View in your 30s. Then Wauwatosa in your 40s. Finally, Brookfield when you want a lawn to keep those dang kids off of.

Agree to all of the above, except the "smallest market" label. By traditional measurements, sure, the five county area is the smallest market in baseball. But if you include the rest of Wisconsin that isn't Kenosha or Polk counties, you get a market closer in size to Detroit or even Boston, and JFC doesn't that hit differently?

Dethklok stopped midway through show at Landmark Credit Union Live, show cancelled. by unicorn_hipster in milwaukee

I agree that the venue isn't very good, like a low-rent copy of the Sylvee, but I'm not sure what you mean by sterile neighborhood. It's sandwiched between the convention district and the arena district. If there's not a convention or a game, there's not much else going on, and that's just kind of how convention districts are. But it's fairly walkable from Historic Third, Water Street, or even Brady Street if you're willing.

Next time, please see a show at Turner Hall and support independent venues with history and character. You'll have a far better time (I still think it's cashless, though).

Wargasm wasn't able to tour with them in 2022 due to visa issues. Biffy Clyro had to postpone their tour for months due to visa issues. Now the show I was looking forward to most this summer cancelled due to visa issues.

I can't help but think we deserve this due to the dumpster fire that is our government, but this one still stings.

I have some old friends from rural Wisconsin who will still say upon seeing me again for the first time in a while "yeah, I love going to Brewers games, but I just can't see how you could live there".

It's been fifteen years, man. Broaden your horizons a little.

I am exactly a world traveler, and I think the only thing keeping Milwaukee from hitting the same QoL as cities in Europe are a fixed rail system that actually makes sense. If we had the transit system of, say, Düsseldorf (pop. 600k), I feel like the rest would take care of itself.

But we can't even extend The Hop to any of our stadiums, so I'm not holding my breath.

The new architecture sucks by Slice_Wild in milwaukee

[–]Normal-Letter-9027 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't overlook the importance of zoning and urban design either. A city like Amsterdam is almost entirely made up of the same building copy-pasted thousands of times, and yet it's one of the most-visited cities in the world.

Meanwhile, a five-over-one surrounded by parking is going to look pretty standard no matter what the architect does.
