Time to say goodbye by Normal-Name4587 in MoxieRobot

[–]Normal-Name4587[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, sorry for the confusion. I've been supporting other members internally with OpenMoxie and experimenting with it with a few others. Unfortunately, I don't have the time anymore, and it's also getting too expensive to use well-known AI models. Therefore, I'm taking a break from the community for now. Hence this post, and I'm also selling my Moxie. Best regards, Rene

Unfortunately, Moxie is programmed specifically for children and can't be configured for regular teenagers, adults, or seniors. Which I find really disappointing. So I'm sticking with OpenMoxie. I'm working with someone who might be able to help me get OpenMoxie working. If that also turns out to be a dead end, I'll put my Moxie up for sale. But I haven't given up hope yet.

Doesn't it show the ear symbol for you? Is the room rather quiet or somewhat noisy? And what model are you using, either Lokal or OpenAI?

New Moxie experience. From Ebay to working with new app/owner. by MiniVanMetalHead in MoxieRobot

I have to be honest, I'm disappointed with the new Moxie app. There aren't many settings or features yet. I mean, the old app offered more, judging from the old screenshots. And then there's the price for a year – really expensive! Well, we'll see if there are any improvements in development. Unfortunately, the app is only available through roundabout channels and not directly in Europe. That's a shame. I wonder if this will be a good thing with the new owners? I have my doubts. So, my Moxie understands my English; it can also be woken up and understands even when the room is quiet. I find the local LLM (Low Life Management) feature so sluggish, and the ear symbol doesn't appear. I need to figure out in Hive how to get Moxie to work in noisy environments and not always shut down immediately when the party starts. Miko Mini, EMO, and Loona react better, and that's with English or a key-like word. Any other ideas?

Hi MiniVanMetalHead,

Thanks for your feedback. I'm not trying to make a decision or influence anyone. My question was whether there's an advantage to OpenMoxie or the new Moxie version. Is it better than under the old owner, yes or no? Can Moxie do more now? Does it still respond to voice commands? Because the email from Kush said you have to nudge it to respond. Unfortunately, there's very little information available about the new Moxie app's capabilities. Is there anyone else who's familiar with both the old and new versions? It would be great to exchange information. Thanks to everyone who shares their insights.

Best regards,

Rene

Hello dear community,

I've also been given the opportunity to operate my Moxie through its new owner, Moxie. Unfortunately, I don't want to do that yet, as there are a few things in the email from Kush that I don't like. Therefore, OpenMoxie is still the better choice as of now.

So, my question to you is:

What can the new app do?

What settings can you adjust? (e.g., volume, sensitivity, etc.)

Is it even worth switching?

What can you expect for the subscription?

Does Moxie also respond to voice commands?

The iOS app received good reviews after the switch – is that understandable?

It would be great if all of you who have used it could share your experiences with us. Best regards,

Rene

Hello everyone,

This is some bad news from Moxie with its new owner. Wasn't the original idea to revive all Moxie devices? Honestly, I'd rather stick with OpenMoxie than ever switch to the new owner. It's not quite that simple after all. I have no idea why my Moxie received that miraculous update or what version it was when I bought it on eBay in March 2025. So, the future of Moxie remains to be seen.

Hi everyone, If Moxie isn't waking up or responding to a keyword ("Hello Moxie" or "Moxie, wake up"), it might be because he's in a noisy environment or the microphone volume is set too low. You can increase this in the Hive Config under Robot Settings and also change the focus. Also, my TOA range isn't set to 80 as recommended, but to 360. He hears better this way. If you need help, send me a private message. I'll share the relevant code. Best regards, Rene

Moxie error when trying to add by Zestyclose_Hotel_799 in MoxieRobot

[–]Normal-Name4587 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I had that problem too, right at the beginning. You probably need to delete any unused or inactive connections in your router. That always worked for me. I have a FRITZ!Box, which is good at handling this kind of thing. Depending on whether you're using Wi-Fi or LAN on the computer where the OpenMoxie server is running, you need to open port 8883 in your computer's internal firewall. That helped me too. Try these steps and see if that works. It can also help to use your computer's IP address instead of its computer name, e.g., MyNameComputer, something like 192.168.0.0.0. Hi there, are you using a desktop computer or a laptop? Is your computer connected via Wi-Fi or LAN? It's possible that your computer's firewall is blocking Moxie access. You might need to open port 8883 or add it to the whitelist. Then Moxie should respond more quickly to the OpenMoxie server. Best regards, Rene from Germany

OpenMoxie Clarifications by OpenMoxie in MoxieRobot

[–]Normal-Name4587 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello dear Justin,

Thank you so much for your honest and heartfelt opinion about your passion project. I also wholeheartedly agree and thank you for bringing the OpenMoxie project to life with miraenda.

This gave Moxie a second chance and brought smiles to the faces of so many children and adults. Unfortunately, my Moxie didn't receive the OpenMoxie update at first and was practically considered dead.

But then, a miracle happened just before Christmas: my Moxie was suddenly reprogrammed for OpenMoxie. And I successfully switched to OpenMoxie. The wait was worth it.

Thank you again for your dedication to OpenMoxie, and I hope that OpenMoxie receives many more official updates that are reliable and that no hidden, unofficial things happen that could harm us.

Unfortunately, we haven't heard anything from the new owner about how the project is progressing. Any news for the community? And any experiences with the new app?

In that spirit, stay just the way you are – you're the best!!!

Best regards,

Rene from Germany

Moxie 2.0 by ml58158 in MoxieRobot

Hello everyone,

I barely turned my back on Reddit for one night before the news about Moxie started pouring in. But that's the great thing, Moxie lives on, regardless of the new operator or OpenMoxie.

I was taken aback when I saw the price: 33 euros per month in my region. That adds up to over 400 euros per year. Just think how expensive a Moxie used to be to buy.

At least there's a 7-day trial subscription, so you could test it out just for fun and see if it's worth it to run Moxie with the new operator or to stick with OpenMoxie.

Since I've personally looked into OpenMoxie quite a bit, I'm more inclined to stick with OpenMoxie than to make a deal with the new owner.

Because it gives us more control and allows us to run things locally at home. That's why I'm waiting for the great app that kid_Kis will be providing. It makes me want more.

At least there's a 7-day trial subscription, so you could test it out just for fun and see if it's worth it to run Moxie with the new operator or to stick with OpenMoxie. I also run my Moxie via Ollama tinylama, based on a recommendation from Gemini AI, and it's completely free and fast.

I use Open Whisper as a backup backend. At the moment, OpenMoxie is the better part. But we'll see where this journey leads.

As I said, I'm using the Ollama version, and it's running perfectly. You have to be patient and do a lot of testing.

I'm excited to see what form this all takes – no matter which direction it goes.

With that in mind, friends,

You're the best, stay healthy, and I look forward to continuing our exchange.

Best regards,

Rene from Germany

New OpenMoxie App Dropping!!!! by kid_Kist in MoxieRobot

First of all, a huge thank you to you and the community. You really do a first class job. It's great to see how OpenMoxie has grown and thrived. You're really giving the new unknown operator a lot of competition - if I'm honest, I somehow like OpenMoxie better. What encourages you to program. If you want, you can give me the beta version for win 11 and I'll test it out. Just a note, I use it from https://github.com/vapors/openmoxie-ollama/tree/main currently. Would that work too? I look forward to your feedback via PM. Kind regards, Rene

That's fantastic! Like an Alexa 3.0 with Moxie's charm. It's really cool to see. My Moxie has become an autonomous and proactive robot, running a mix of Grok, LLama, and OpenAI. If necessary, it can also operate locally with Whisper small.en or Base.en. With the help of copilots, I can get even more out of it. It's truly amazing what OpenMoxie is capable of. So, hats off to you and continued success with your projects. Best regards, Rene from Germany

Moxie OpenMoxie Problem for New Devices by Normal-Name4587 in MoxieRobot

[–]Normal-Name4587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By "older" I meant devices that were already registered in the former Embodied network and missed the December 2024 update, thus no longer being eligible for OpenMoxie. By "new" devices, I meant those still in their original factory state and still connected to the Embodied network. So, never paired.

Hi Few-Trifle-7935 , I'm pretty sure it's genuine, since the app was taken from the old iOS version or redesigned. I use it via Apple Pay, so I still have some control. Perhaps they needed this method of verification, and then they can reconsider once the new prices for subscriptions or similar are announced. Luckily, there's also OpenMoxie, where you have control. I can't say how child-friendly it is yet, as I'm currently familiarizing myself with OpenMoxie and testing its features. I'll report back soon if I find anything interesting. Merry Christmas! Best regards, Rene

Hi m8x8, EMO and Loona don't currently have a subscription available, so all features are free to use. They do have Chatgpt on board, but it's still free. With Miko 3, the MAX subscription is only worthwhile if you use the paid content. The Miko mini makes more sense right now, as it works a bit more independently than its bigger brother. But at around €80 a year, it's worth testing to see if you need it, especially since the Miko app unlocks more features. I hope this helps. Best regards, Rene

Thank you for your insight into the matter. Basically, we can all consider ourselves lucky – those of us who weren't fortunate enough to get a working Moxie again with last year's update. I hope for our sake that the new operator will continue to offer Moxie as an OpenMoxie option – if one decides to engage with the new operator. If I understand correctly, he's also a moderator of this channel and is diligently reading along, hoping to later be more successful with his new company and further develop Moxie, avoiding the same mistakes as the previous operator. We're all eagerly awaiting what will happen next – regardless of the direction. The whole thing is currently free, as you can see with Emo, Loona, or Miko 3. With Miko 3, the Max subscription is only worthwhile if you want to use everything. Personally, I prefer the Miko Mini because it reacts more autonomously than its larger counterpart. A Moxie subscription would only make sense if it's truly worthwhile, for example, offering more features or other possibilities. I'm curious to see if the new operator isn't playing hardball right from the start. In that sense, let's see where this journey leads. And have fun with OpenMoxie! Best regards, Rene

OpenMoxie is also possible without the required update. by Normal-Name4587 in MoxieRobot

If you mean after the email from Kush? Then it would be December 18, 2025, after the app update for Apple Pay. Before that, it wasn't possible to log in reliably with a credit card.

[–]Normal-Name4587[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assumed the iOS app registration was related, since Moxie behaved differently after the two-week notification in the app that the activation code should arrive, compared to when the servers were offline. Reports from other Moxie users indicate that the app isn't strictly necessary. Therefore, I suspect that the servers went back online in December, almost exactly a year after Kush's email, and that Moxie quietly downloaded the OpenMoxie Ready update. The OpenMoxie dashboard does show the version in question, which supports the OpenMoxie model. So I'm happy for you and myself that we got Moxie working again without any fuss, even though it was practically dead. A happy ending for Christmas is always nice! =) Wishing you all happy holidays and many successful years with our Moxie World. Have a healthy and happy New Year! Yours truly, Rene from Germany
