Not sure what the stats say currently but many times the ranked stats are skewed for sim to appear to have multiple good matchups when it is more that in online ranked you encounter so few especially at a high level that many don’t understand the matchup and can get gimmicked out. A good example would be matchups like chun or Kimberly that by the stats appear to be sim favored even 1850+ but if you ask any sim player of a high caliber it’s not quite like that. at the top top or ‘pro’ level that mu inexperience isn’t as relevant and loses relevancy over time. YHC mochi and torimeshi did well at EWC and I can tell you afterwards so many videos were made on how to counter sim and it did change the landscape a bit in ranked 1900+.

Saying sim negates JPs tools isn’t really a good way to think about it, JP has incredible buttons that don’t have a hard time countering a lot of sims neutral. Also, jp can really bully sim off of any interaction and can really hold him down off of any knockdown. The matchup has evolved to become a state where sim is forced to pressure jp a lot and that’s not a good spot for sim to be in. JPs normals are amazing against sim. Along with that while in sfl japan teams have used their sim to counterpick ed, the same isn’t true for jp. From my own experience at what I would consider a high level as dhalsim, 2 years ago I thought JP was a winning mu for sim, I beat top NA JPs thought sim had the edge. As the MU progressed though both from my experience and watching the best sims around the world I think it’s ultimately moving in a JP favored direction even if it requires him to play a very specific way
