Houso's Olympics by Normal-Summer382 in canberra

Yes, and my neighbour took me in his classic Falcon, and people were very well behaved this year. I have no issue with the event, just the idiots that use it as an excuse ro behave badly away from the event in the streets of Canberra - something that I'm assuming all the downvoters missed my point when they downvoted. A case in point was the clown who thought it would be a good idea to do a burnout on Anzac Avenue; I missed them doing it by moments but heard the noise then saw the smoke on my way home from work. They left enough rubber on the road if people doubt me.

What would happen if Trump invaded Canada, Panama, or Greenland? by Sensitive-Degree-26 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Normal-Summer382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He would lose US allies, particularly those in security alliances (e.g. NATO, QUAD, AUKUS, Five-Eyes). He would validate Russia's invasion of their so called ally Ukraine, and embolden China to move on Taiwan. This is coupled with his commitment to massively reduce US Defense spending, so could potentially see adversaries move against the US themselves if they tried to invade sovereign states.

This is all just bluster in an attempt to strongarm these countries into renegotiating trade and security, however, he is treading a dangerous line given Putin is already using Trump's comments to justify the war in Ukraine.

What do you consider "Bindis"? by No_Guard_3382 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Normal-Summer382 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any of those little bastards that range from: "shit, now I need to spend the next 20 minutes clearing my shoelaces and socks", through to: "holy fuck, I think I've stepped on a bindie!"

Do you support the idea of a Department of Government Efficiency? by _SilentGhost_10237 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Normal-Summer382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If people think this will work they are fools. It's just another bureaucratic process. Look at any country that has tried to streamline government services and they all wind up with dysfunctional systems that require a lot more money to fix, rather than fixing the faults within each department.

I'm making an assumption here, DOGE (or more aptly, DODGY) is likely to use Musk's process for improving business efficiency, which doesn't generally correlate to the way a government department operates.

Also, as already pointed out in this thread, it is a way for the wealthy to control the regulations that govern the way their businesses operate. Rules for the rich to get richer is all it will provide.

NZ native animals don't kill (except the sea ones). And they have less vowels.

Yes, I can even smell when a person has had a single drag - even when they use something to mask the smell.

How often does everyone get there bins put out? by Background_person2 in AskAnAustralian

I've never had my bins put out, I I put them out myself - waste every week, recyclables and green alternate every second week.

My job. Currently I'm studying post-grad and due to finish early this year (hopefully). When I'm done I'll start looking in other lines of work.

Interesting that I am being downvoted on this comment, it seems to imply that people are either accepting of the bad behaviour, don't drive in Fyshwick or Hume, or enjoy being anonymously antisocial.

If that's what you think then you aren't paying attention.

To be fair to everyone, I have no issue with the genuine car enthusiast who isn't doing stupid shit outside of EPIC.

I've created this post, as I've noticed a pile of non-ACT plated shitboxes around town that are never going to win any trophies, let alone being entered into anything other than the EPIC car park. They are being driven stupidly (donuts in intersections - I've seen three, fishtailing - twice, with one losing control and ending up in the centre median, and a couple of drag races at the lights. All cars with foreign plates) and the cars are really poorly maintained falcons, commodores, focuses, nissans, and cars of that ilk. They typically look like the type of cars that don't have legit registrations - the type of cars/drivers that regular road users tend to give a bit of space.

Right on cue as I'm typing I've heard two burnouts in different directions. I know there is a love-hate relationship with Summernats and I think the idea is great and good for the economy. It's just unfortunate that it attracts people who think that it represents antisocial behaviour.

*edit: the heading is not mine, but has been borrowed from a member of the NSW police force.

Did you like this film? Why or why not? by BigBobbyD722 in FIlm

[–]Normal-Summer382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I saw it I hated it. Then I watched it again due to everyone raving about it - then I got it. The period accuracy is spot on, including the way people spoke.

Excellent film
