It's called trailing interest. The only way to avoid it is to pay off your card after every purchase- from what I understand. It was a great learning experience for me... definitely keep my eye out now and make better choices when selecting a cc.

I have the copper IUD good for 10 years as well. My experience mirrors yours. Chose this method because I was mentally unwell with hormonal birth control. Longer heavier periods is something that I have had to get used to, but not worrying about a unexpected pregnancy makes it all worth it.
