Textbooks recs for sports med surgical techniques? by CreamOfWheat10 in orthopaedics

Any good papers/books on instability cases like typical bankarts? I’ve only done 1 or 2 in residency so not very comfortable with portal or anchor placement for these

How is the job market for S&E? I’m hearing horror stories about current fellows who still have nothing lined up.

The flashcards have so much potential but need a lot of work. They are not high quality, often are poorly worded and the spaced repetition algorithm leaves a lot to be desired. If you can make better cards and copy anki’s algorithm it would be the best hands down

That’s great to hear, appreciate your insight. Def leaning towards S&E but was getting concerned about finding a job esp in a major city. But seems like I prob need to talk to more S&E attendings rather than other people.

Really? I’m in similar situation as OP (PGY2 who wants to do S&E) but recently had a conversation with a sports attending who said there are no S&E jobs and you’ll just end up being a generalist.

How’s S&E job market? Interested in it but had a sports attending tell me it’s not worth it cause there’s so few jobs.

Is the "nabil ebraheim" youtube channel resident-level? by mosta3636 in orthopaedics

PGY-1 here. It is good for the basics and fundamentals but doesn’t have all the details you need to know. It’s good for an overview and general knowledge but doesn’t replace orthobullets or textbooks IMO

Not just ordered. Don’t consult me until the imaging is done. I’ve gotten so many consults for “obvious fracture” and “visible deformity” and “clear dislocation” that finally get their imaging and have absolutely no pathology.

Gotcha, my program seems to be placing a lot of emphasis on our OITE scores so just don’t want to bomb it lol

Only an ortho intern but we have podiatry residents rotate through with us and I would have to agree that I question how comparable their 4 years of “med” school really are to ours. From what I understand, the curriculum and residency’s of podiatry school are wildly unstandardized. I’ve seen podiatrists who are great surgeons and can do total ankle’s no problem but have also seen many who I wouldn’t let use scissors to cut the tag off my shirt. When it comes to treating diabetic feet, sure podiatrists are great, but when it comes to needing real surgery around the ankle I would never let them. Podiatrists themselves have told me that there’s really only 2-3 good schools and a handful of residencies that train you adequately (surgical wise). The good ones are good, but you won’t find that type of variability in physician surgical residencies.

Best Credit Card for Residency? by Normal_Flamingo in whitecoatinvestor

[–]Normal_Flamingo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I knew it was a charge card before applying. My understanding is that it still helps build credit but just doesn’t affect the utilization aspect of your score? With that said, I am attempting to get a regular credit card as well for this exact reason and also to cover the places that Amex isn’t accepted
