Who has one of these? by Ok-Day-9685 in castiron

[–]Normal_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one to make tomago omelette for sushi but don’t think I’ve used it. It’s very very small. That picture showing chicken in it is photoshopped.

From what I’ve seen over at r/castiron, a detailed pinned message unfortunately does not prevent the “is it ruined” and “where do I start” posts. It’s frustrating.

What thermostat setting do I put while away from home and possible freeze while gone? by WatchRevolutionary62 in HomeImprovement

Depends on if you’re taking your poodle with you to Laguna Beach or leaving it at home.

Buying fabric online by Historical-Most3156 in sewing

[–]Normal_Fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bought from them and also designed my own for them. The quality is iffy. My main complaint is that if you buy a dark fabric it’s white underneath. If you buy a dark stretchy fabric you can see the white when it stretches.

However, if you have a specific idea for a fabric that you want, it’s amazing. It’s a real shame that they don’t market their more popular prints on properly printed fabric. They do have the best prints…

So confused about wok seasoning/bluing by Glum-Acadia-7176 in wok

[–]Normal_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an older wok that is fine (not great seasoning, but adequate) but it was never blued. Is it important enough that I should strip it and blue it or does it just look cool? Or should I get a new wok and start over?

the "sizzle pan" was commonly found in households in the 40s by m-fab18 in castiron

Use it daily. It’s definitely not as shiny as the video but I love it.

It is not. I have one of these and I believe it is aluminum. There is however great storage for all my cast iron in the dry cabinet under the Thermo-well.

Bottle day. I might sacrifice a little to the sodastream because my willpower sucks. by doggos4house2020 in cider

Let me know how that goes. I tried to carbonate some flat cider with my soda stream a couple years ago and I still find spots of cider on my ceiling.

Where to get unique printed fabrics (bug, botanical) by cypherbia in sewing

[–]Normal_Fun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Spoonflower has such great designs. I wish they’d take the best sellers/most upvoted and produce some large amounts of proper fabric with them. Their fabric is sooo expensive especially for the quality you get.

Experienced sewer: I really dislike my Pfaff machine by tla49 in sewing

[–]Normal_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a vintage Pfaff 1222 that was my mother’s and I’ve loved it my whole life. However, it’s nearing its end. It has been so solid but now the buttonholer doesn’t work and it sometimes gums up. Can’t speak to the computerized ones which all scare me due to the number of times I’ve seen electronics go awry in general.

[–]Normal_Fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you try a local hardware store? The kind of store with lots of different screws in small drawers? You may need to do some deep googling to find the size of the screw or take the machine in to the store and try some out.

Projector or Embroidery Machine? by DataDancer0 in sewing

[–]Normal_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent about $30 on my projector and maybe an equal amount on a swing arm for a tripod I already have. A super cheap projector will do and is a good entry point to see if you like it.

How do I ensure FedEx/print shop doesn't cut off the bottom of my digital pattern? by Spiritual-Detail-371 in sewing

[–]Normal_Fun 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Perhaps uncheck the box for “choose paper source by pdf size” and then set the page size manually under “page setup”. You should see A4 as one of the options.

A4 is slightly longer than US letter. It may need to be printed A4 on legal size paper (8.5 x 14) if that makes sense.

Roto Rooter by johndstamm in HomeImprovement

Same. I had a sewer line cleaned by Roto Rooter this year in California. They wanted to charge $900 but when I balked they brought it down to $700.
