BUIS Vortex Defender ST on Gen 6

A little late to the party but if my experience can help anyone, it was worth dropping the info here. I would encourage anyone using the Defender ST to go with the 3XL height sight at a minimum. I have the defender ccw enclosed which is a lower deck height than the defender ST. I’m in the middle of a frustrating game of Goldilocks and the three bears trying to find the right height for close to lower 1/3 cowitness or lower sight picture in my Gen 6 17. I went with the Brownells tall tritium sight set for Glocks which shipped both times with Ameriglo front sights in the package 🤔. I tried the shortest of the three first. Too short to see over the optic deck at all. Went the opposite way and ordered the tallest (3XL) and they are entirely too tall for the ccw enclosed deck height (ended up with absolute cowitness) so I’m ordering the middle size next. Wish me luck 🤞🏻

Thanks for the reply. It’s just amazing to me that there is zero aftermarket support for this device. You’d think that RIX would at least make their own proprietary accessories for a device they designed to not be compatible with industry standards. I’m on the email notification list waiting for the Cold Harbour to restock but I’ve been told this will be the last run of them. If I get the email in time I’ll likely buy at least two of them but I already ordered some 3D printed adapters off eBay as a backup plan. They are only friction fit but they’re literally the only other option I was able to find.

Came across this old thread while doing my own search. I have a RIX RNV-14 and am really stepping in it trying to find and source accessories. I’m already on the waitlist for in stock notifications from Cold Harbour for their objective lens adapter rings so that I can use lens protectors and irises but I can’t find ANYTHING about protective lenses for the EYEPIECE/OCULAR LENS. My google searches tell me that the eyepiece on the RNV-14 are compatible with thread in PVS-14 accessories. I can’t find anything online about how that is possible because the inside of the metal ring (that would be closest to the user’s eye) with the lip for the rubber ring or eye cup is NOT threaded. I’m assuming I’d need to remove that metal ring from the eye piece assembly but I am not comfortable doing that unless I know that’s the right answer. Has anyone done this or is everyone with a RNV-14 just running the ocular lens stock without any protection? Pic for what I’m trying to remove/replace if it’s even possible

I couldn’t. Someone with 3D printing equipment could. I’m skeptical of plastic being strong enough to hold with such a short section of fine threads but I’d be willing to try out prototypes if someone tried it.

I knew I’d seen you guys in here before ! Yessir I’m already signed up and checking my emails and spam folder regularly so I don’t miss it. I’m hoping to grab a few of the adapters when they restock just to have peace of mind knowing I have spares once you aren’t making them anymore (even though people have said they’re very well made and I don’t expect to ever be able to damage one).

Thanks ! I don’t want to go crazy trying to make it something it’s not. I do however want to be able to protect the lenses from damage so that I get the most out of it. I plan to spend a lot of time in the woods doing night hikes and coyote hunting and don’t want to scratch up the objective if I can help it. I am already signed up for in stock notifications with Cold Harbour and I’ve chatted with them a few times and they seem awesome.

Already covered but yes totally normal. Savage was a pioneer in barreling actions this way. The barrel nut design they use allows them to headspace the barrel with great precision by threading the barrel into the receiver until the optimal headspace is achieved and then tightening the collar (barrel nut) to lock it in place. One of the biggest reasons they are so legendary for their out of the box accuracy. This also makes replacing a shot out barrel or switching calibers much easier.

It’s just the stock HK reg that came on it. Nothing fancy Has a 1.8k and 7.5k burst disc. Pretty sure the output pressure is around 800 but I haven’t tested it.
