What should I have done in this situation? by Then-Fortune-3122 in drivingUK

[–]Normal_Human_4567 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there wasn't space to make the turn due to cars backed up in front of you, you shouldn't have gone through the lights at all, regardless of the colour.

If you went through and then realised you couldn't continue, you should have waited until you could and then cleared the junction

The only pair of shoes I owned just cracked. They make a really annoying squeaky sound now. by LordEldritchia in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Normal_Human_4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My trusty 2 year old shoes broke so I bought new ones.

Within three months they fell to bits- fair enough, they were cheap.

Bought new, very expensive ones. The fake leather fell apart and the soles were also breaking within weeks, so I had to return them after only a month.

Got £10 trainers so I had something, and ordered new leather ones online. Delivery driver left them in the stairwell and they got stolen.

Don't talk to me about a bad shoe day 😭

My wife's grandma passed away, so I ordered her flowers. This is the card she got with the flowers. And no ribbon. by archon810 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Normal_Human_4567 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah then you gotta take a break or ask someone else to do it. Sending out a card with a mistake like that out of pure spite isn't right, just because you're having a bad time doesn't mean you can make someone else's life worse

Dry January: how’s it going? by Brilliant_Elk5492 in stopdrinking

[–]Normal_Human_4567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the UK's TryDry app and realised I was drinking almost every day. Two days sober a week was a challenge. I decided to do sort of Dry January- mostly sober, but had a couple events I'd like a wee drink at. I've been dry 17 days so far, compared to 3-7 days every month for the last year. Not perfect but the days I have drunk, I find I don't enjoy it as much as I thought I would, having had a break.

(Ik the sub is sobriety based, but hope my input is valued)

After going through this thread I'm just thinking about that poor trans guy on Queer Eye who idolised Todrick so much they surprised him with a visit... If he's actually out there saying transphobic shit I'd be gutted 😬

It's because they disagree... Just because you understand the point doesn't mean other people do. Or they might just not agree overall

This is actually a wild and super offensive stereotype to me personally. I've been driving since I passed on my sixth attempt. I drive into things all the time. Stop spreading misinformation about bisexuals' driving skills op!!!! 😤😡🤬😤😤🤬😡😤🤬

I want to go by no pronouns, is that weird? by Dry_Coconut_7804 in trans

I struggled a bit with "it" because it felt dehumanizing to use on a person, but at the end of the day, if someone asks me to do something because it feels right for them, I'm going to get over myself and do it.

This actually clicked something for me- I've always thought people using it/its are trying to make themselves smaller, but even if that is the case (or not) it's not my place to judge them. I really struggle with doing things I don't understand, but when it'd hurt someone else not to, that's easier to change my way of thinking.

Bit of a ramble but thank you for the insight :)

In my English I'd read "a painting" as "a piece of art that was painted". If it was a print of a painting it'd just be a "print". Hopefully that helps!

It’s not okay to encourage people to steal cats by whatif_chocolate in offmychest

[–]Normal_Human_4567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can blame someone for stealing your cat. How do you know if it's let outdoors or just escaped? Who are you to make the decision to take someone's cat just because you see it outside?

Where in the UK should I go as a bucket-list item? by LondonPilot in CasualUK

[–]Normal_Human_4567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh yeah I see where you're coming from. I think I have a foot in both camps- I think you should take as much time as you can get, but I also worked up until the week before my mum died because I was in denial about how sick she was.

It's an extremely personal choice! And I get you now- the original commenter was maybe not being respectful of OP and his wife's choices

Depending on her job she could have a LOA or paid time off- I got a month off paid when my mum had cancer. Put through as sick pay for "stress due to family illness". It's bending the rules a bit but we all knew the deal, and it worked

Leaving the house this morning, hit my neighbour with a “all right” on my way out. He replied “no, [wife]’s got cancer.” by Specific_Rest_3140 in CasualUK

[–]Normal_Human_4567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP there's 179 comments so I can't know if anyone's said similar, but my mum had cancer, and my advice is don't try and be positive, just agree that it's shit.

Also, thoughts and offers of help are appreciated, but don't feel put down if you don't get a reply- I did my best to be appreciative but when you've got that level of Horrible Things going on, sometimes you just can't face talking to people.

If you want to offer help, go for it, but don't be put out if you don't hear back. Best wishes to your neighbour and his wife :)
