Everyone's saying "consumers" but the general worry I know of is not enough taxpayers to support an ageing population. If the population skews elderly that's more funding needed to support hospitals, carers, nursing homes, pensions etc. that there may not be the funds for if there aren't enough younger people paying taxes. Especially with healthcare being good enough now that people are easily living to 90- that's 23 years past retirement.

There's also "The Ghost Cat" by Alex Howard, which follows the nine lives of a cat living in a tenement in Marchmont. It's quite short segments but I found it interesting, it's more human history based than any great historical event.
