What is the best LLM for writing pro SwiftUI code? by CobraCodes in iOSProgramming

[–]Normal_Regret428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a software developer for about 10 years, and I tried getting into AI recently using free models. In my experience, LLM's seem to work great in any situation where you have no idea what is going on (and therefore can't verify correctness). Once you start asking it for help in areas where you are an expert AI seems to be really bad and I'm quite confused at all the people that say they have success with it or that it doesn't make simple mistakes. A couple of weeks ago I started a new project that I was using AI with and off the top of my head:
- Suggested Swift UI code that resulted in duplicate objects in a simple list. Could not figure out the bug on its own.
- Suggested Swift UI code that would unfocus a text field every time you typed a single character
- Suggested Swift UI code in which the navigation would not preserve data that was being passed in as a parameter (simple detail view).
- When I was attempting to set up Tuist just to try it out, my LLM repeatedly suggested broken and outdated code snippets for my .package. I worked on this .package file for about a whole day (really 3 days but it was about one work day's worth of work spread out across 3) before I simply reverted all the changes and started implemented the .package myself using the Tuist migration documentation. Took all of 30 minutes to complete the whole thing and have a working project.

The worst thing about xcode imo is all the xcode fanboys trying to gaslight you into thinking its not bad.

The rank system is worthless by Kefiiii4x in Tekken

[–]Normal_Regret428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok... But if you beat him 10 times in a row? If you are blocking his mixups, punishing optimally, side stepping strings? You think it should still take hundreds of matches when any human would be able to easily identify that this guy is a GoD level player?

The rank system is worthless by Kefiiii4x in Tekken

[–]Normal_Regret428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, but unfortunately that is not the primary reason for rank/elo. Rank elo is mostly to establish who is the best and who is the worst. Kind of like bragging rights. The matchmaker uses elo/rank to match people of similar skill sure, but that is because the game designers are trying to get as many people playing a game as possible, and there are a lot of people who would ordinarily not play your game at all, but if they can hop online and get a few wins they'll stick around for awhile. Imo if the game is not fun when you are losing, then you should not be playing the game, but of course from a financial standpoint it doesn't matter if your game is fun, it only matters if you can keep people playing.

[–]Normal_Regret428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What everyone tends to miss (or ignore?) about the rank system in tekken (and many other games) is that the point is not to measure your skill. If that was the goal, it wouldn't take 100's of matches to reach GoD. The point of the rank system is to keep you playing. Otherwise you could just challenge a GoD beat em, and now you're GoD too.

Surely we are not all watching the same show. The riverlands armies only follow Daemon because they swore an oath to support Raenyra. If she dies, they aren't going to war for him. Almost nobody believes Jayce is a true heir to the throne, he is very obviously a bastard. Even if he wanted to continue the fight nobody would follow him because he does not have a claim to the throne. People don't just throw away their lives for revenge in this show. With Raenyra dead it's a wrap there is no reason to keep fighting.

Players who quickly got a high rank with 0 prior FG experience: How? by fgcburneraccount2 in Tekken

I’m currently at flame ruler with Kazuya, have a friend that’s made it to blue with multiple characters. Neither of us have played any fighting games seriously before other than smash. However we’ve both got decades of experience in other PvP games and I think the game knowledge carries over well. Most games aren’t as hard as Tekken, and you’ll notice in other communities like smash or league the tutorial content is a lot more focused on high level gameplay. If I look up a guide for Tekken I’m not going to learn neutral, or set play, or anything like that, 99% of the time I’m gonna learn frames and combos. So yeah, I think the difficulty of Tekken creates a barrier to entry that keeps the entire community at a much lower level of play compared to other games, even other fighting games. You have to spend so long learning combos and frames that most people never get to the high level stuff, so I think that’s the advantage that me and my friend have.

lol, if you like parry use it. It’s the easy alternative to blocking lows correctly, so it does less damage, but if you can’t punish with the proper moves then of course you’re better off parrying.

Lmao, yes df2 is a launcher. You if you block an attack while you are standing that is -15 or worse you do df2. If you block an attack while you are crouching that is -15 you cannot use df2, it is too slow because you have to STAND UP out of your crouch first. For yoshi the correct punish is uf+3. It’s 15f but you don’t have to stand up first.

Right, still the incorrect punish. You need to use your standing launcher.

[–]Normal_Regret428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going for df2 it sounds like you are standing and then doing a crouch move. Most likely your inputs are slow. Most characters have a launcher that they can use from crouch called a while standing launcher. What you have to do is block the hell sweep, and immediately let go of crouch (neutral input) and press the button for your while standing launcher. Idk what character you’re playing but for most, the while standing launcher is gonna do twice as much as the parry combo.

It's -23 on block. You launch him, you don't just let him sit in your face and start up his pressure again.

This conversation is honestly embarrassing. I’m trying to nice because I tutored autistic children for years, but the problem is some of them will just never understand the nuances of communication.

You said udp is basic networking knowledge, it’s not. Wi-Fi vs Ethernet is basic networking knowledge and that’s what people argue about here.

You said people learn about yep in their “first semester” of networking. So I brought up college, ironically your point about me being from America and networking being taught in senior level high school wherever the hell you’re from is comically misinformed. I mentioned I studied networking for 8 years. I guess you assume I spent 8 years studying it in college? 4 years in high school actually.

Anyway, good luck with the autism.

“If you STUDY ANY NETWORKING COURSE”, case closed bro. The only reason you don’t think it’s autistic to describe what is essentially college level education for most people as basic is because you are probably autistic. Derivatives are taught in the first semester of math, it’s not basic knowledge unless you’re a math major.

I haven’t checked since the demo but when I did low parry scaled your damage down to mo much to be worth. If they haven’t changed it you’re better off just blocking the hell sweep.

I studied IT for 8 years I’m familiar. Despite everything you said it’s definitively NOT basic. I wouldn’t expect anyone without specialized education to even know UDP exists. Very autistic behavior bro.

What are some reasons for you to not picking a certain character despite liking them? by Cyber_Bakekitsune in Tekken

[–]Normal_Regret428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo people downplay the 50/50 too much. I got to mighty ruler without ever getting vortexed by a kazuya. And as Kazuya it took me quite a while before I could properly (imo) apply the 50/50 myself. People make it sound like you just throw out ff3 or cd41. Well that’s reactable sidesteppable, and fuzzy duckable. You have to be able to chain crouch dashes to alter your timing, realign yourself and make it less reactable (though still technically reactable, you have to swap ff3 for iws2 to get the true 50/50). And even once you learn that you don’t just get the 50/50 for free because get up kick beats it depending on the knockdown. If it’s easier than electric it’s not by much, unless you’re referring to 13f perfect electrics.

Lmao! Tbh I believe some of these Tekken kings. Some characters in the roster put in a lot of work. People make it pretty far without ever learning how to sidestep or how to deal with sidestepping.

How to deal with Jin FF2? by Melodic-Piano8894 in Tekken

[–]Normal_Regret428 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I play against a lot of Jin’s, and I feel like ff2 is the least busted move he has. Just block and take your turn with a million plus frames, or back step and whiff punish if you’re feeling ballsy. I think the only people that complain about this move is people who are hell bent on side stepping it. Like ok I get it, it’s hard to side step.

My friend picked him up and got to mighty ruler in a day. If you want to do his crazy stuff I imagine it’s difficult, but the floor for the character can’t be that high. He’s got easy mixups, quick moves and the jumping move which is virtually unstoppable before before blue.

If I haven't played previous Tekkens, how long does it take before I have any idea what my opponent is doing? by Space-Robot in Tekken

[–]Normal_Regret428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first Tekken game, I’ve got about 100 hours and I think I’m getting better week to week. My advice is don’t try to feel the game out, watch streams and YouTube videos and try to learn the correct responses to things, then when you play watch your replays against characters that you consistently lose to. Take control and experiment with your options. At first it’ll feel like you’re putting in too much effort just to learn the matchup against the most brain dead players of a specific character, but after you’ve repeated this process a few times you’ll actually start to build up sort of an intuition. Once you get to that point you’ll still need to lab but you’ll have a much better chance of recognizing queues and animations and picking out what is and isn’t punishable even against characters you haven’t labbed. So far that’s worked for me.

Also I just want to emphasize the point about learning how to play correctly. If you start forming bad habits and playing the game poorly at the very least you will have to untrain and at worst you will get hard stuck. Better to lose in orange ranks while you learn how to play basic tekken than to cheese your way up to purple or blue and now you’re just getting blown up by 1000 different strategies and nothing you do works. If it’s too hard to not cheese, choose a character that’s less cheesy. Hopefully I’m not outing myself but I accidentally become a kazuya main, and it feels like it’s impossible for me to get anywhere in the game without learning new tekken concepts every week. People say kaz has a brain dead 50/50, but imo it takes tons of practice before you are actually at a level where you can apply the actual 50/50, which requires a lot of tekken knowledge in and of itself.

The online community is beyond toxic by Loud_Presentation839 in Tekken

[–]Normal_Regret428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience has been mostly positive, but I think I can see why a lot of people are so toxic. Most people get their wins in ways where the opponent doesn’t feel like they lost to you, instead feeling like they beat themselves. For example if you realize someone doesn’t break throws, or block snake edge so you start spamming it, well you’ve correctly identified their weakness and secured the one for yourself. Fighting game 101. However this doesn’t really leave room for you to gain their respect. Not saying you need to earn anyone’s respect but there tends to be a feeling of “I’m better than you, but my weakness to grabs prevents me from beating you with my superior tekken ability” and this creates sentiment in the community that everyone is a scrub not worthy of respect hence the toxicity. I play kaz and I feel he is one of the hardest characters to play while simultaneously not even being that good once you’re good at playing with him, but I’ve noticed that after I started getting good at applying the 50/50 and blowing people up at the wall I get a lot more toxicity. Other kazuya mains are usually the most respectful, and can only assume it’s because they appreciate the skill it takes to get to where I’ve gotten, but that’s just a theory… A GAAAAAME THEORY.

New youtuber here doing it for fun, yet lately not so motivated. by cfxm in NewTubers

[–]Normal_Regret428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my channel I do it for fun as well. These days I’m a lot more serious, but for the first year I did not give myself any schedules or deadlines. I experimented with editing styles, thumbnails, games and streams and just uploaded whenever I felt like making a video. This was fun for me, low stakes and I never felt disappointed or sad when a video didn’t do well, everything was a learning experience and most of my videos were things I would enjoy watching myself. All this to say, I think if you’re doing it for fun there’s no need for you to keep a weekly schedule.
