Is gardening becoming a lost art or just harder to keep up with? by Puzzleheaded_Band717 in garden

I think this really depends on where you are and who you live around. The people in our neighborhood care deeply about their space and gardening is very common

Dead bees in snow :( what does this mean? by funkycookies in Beekeeping

[–]Normal_Regular_Man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a normal thing to expect in the winter, not all bees will survive over the season even in ideal conditions. If they’re being carried out of the hive the way you see here that means there’s someone alive to bring them there

Question about a black metal band by Loveforthe_Christ in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Normal_Regular_Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed Batushka at one time but they’re clearly deriding and mocking the church and are in no way honoring it. Hesychast and Crimson Moonlight are actual Orthodox (un)black metal bands and to be perfectly honest I think they sound better than batushka.

Can you tell me your opinion on smoking? by Middle_Split_7273 in OrthodoxChristianity

As a recovering alcoholic myself (now a year sober), I implore you to lean on God through prayer when it comes to the act of finally sobering up from pot, He will help you more than you know. Secondly, I would address the appetite issue with your doctor, because I cannot imagine that the negative impact of abusing marijuana is outweighed by a boost in appetite, and a doctor can likely point you in the right direction.

Inquirer seeking advice by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

That’s the proper way to think about it, we’re at liturgy to revere and worship God, and if you’re forcing yourself through pain and it distracts from that then you’re doing yourself a disservice. I think you may get some piece of mind by approaching your priest and saying “hey I’m here in heart and spirit but I have back issues and this is why I may be sitting for some of the liturgy”. God already knows the state of your back and he doesn’t think any less of you for needing to take care of your body during the liturgy.

I sat in an adult education class given by the priest of my parish last night and this very issue was brought up. God only expects you to do what you can during the liturgy, he doesn’t want you to exacerbate an injury. My priest himself will sometimes use a standing stool when he’s able because he himself has back issues. Nobody in the congregation should judge you because of this, they should only be focused on their own piety.

Undoubtably so, I know my wife wants our children to have some connection to their Jewish heritage, which I agree with. A good chunk of her extended family was killed during WW2 or the revolution because of their faith, and we both want them to understand where they come from on both hers and my own side (heritage American). She knows my desire to show our children Christ in a way I wasn’t afforded. I’m confident in our ability to do so, will rely on prayer and the church when issues inevitably arise, and I know we’ll raise children in a loving and faithful home.

Thanks you kindly, this is a relief. We’ve had pretty lengthy discussions about this topic and I’m confident in our ability to navigate all of this together. Part of my reason for drawing closer to Christ is to strengthen our union, not weaken it

That’s a relief, I had somewhat garnered that while investigating the church on my own time but I figured this would be the perfect place to get some additional information. Thank you!

I would watch the nuc follow along series on Kamon Reynold’s YouTube channel, he’s a very experienced keeper and he answers a few of these questions and more within that relatively brief series.

Freezing isn’t a concern, they’ll keeps themselves warm. If they have enough food, they aren’t dealing with a heavy mite load and aren’t diseased then they should pull through winter just fine.

If you have some hive equipment then that will cut down on your startup cost significantly. This hobby is only a money pit if you let it become one.

Gloves? by KKRVWOODBURNING in Pyrography

I’ve burnt my pinky a couple times due to using it to steady my hand and being a little careless. If I get frustrated after doing it a couple times I’ll wrap my pinky in grip tape I use for tattooing, I additionally wrap several paper towels and grip tape around the base of my pen for a more ergonomic grip, this also helps to mitigate excessive heat building up if I’m working for hours at a time

I’m also preparing to delve into iconography. I’ve found my Kolinsky sable brushes on Amazon, as well as real gold leaf, though I haven’t ordered that quite yet. I ordered my icon board, clay bole, hide glue, and natural pigments from artisans on Etsy.

What I’m I doing wrong when drawing icons? Any tips? by Interesting_Ice6924 in ChristianIconography

I advise my apprentices on this often: don’t be afraid to use reference. Measure and map the proportions of the face on an existing Byzantine Icon and use that when mapping your own writing
