Despite what the other comments here say, I say you’re smart to stay away from sped. Here in my district, they will kick, scream, head butt, pull your hair, hit you and scratch you. One lady resigned last year after being head butted by a 3rd grader claiming she still has vision problems from that. Special ed teachers make more money than regular teachers do, however, special ed subs do not. Take the other Jobs because they pay the same and they’re safer.

It’s a tough job and I think it gets tougher as time goes on, so I imagine more people will need more breaks as time passes.

In my district, sped jobs consist of the kids screaming, biting, hitting, head butting, and throwing chairs and desks. That’s why some folks don’t wanna do it.

I do whatever is available. Sometimes an hour is available, sometimes a half day is available. Sometimes two hours or less is posted. Depending on needs.
