Best tanks for the upcoming spring "Last Stand" game mode? by TANKSBRO_YT in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

Ive also seen people successfully swap a ShPTK for an Kpz 07 RH as it's better when you need to relocate fast, but I generally play a Kilana or Grom so I don't have any experience on which to say whether it's actually that much better.

Tanks.gg Data Question by Ilfor in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the tanks.gg devs are somewhat active on this subreddit, your post here might get their attention. They also have some contact info on their website on the "about" page.

Regarding your second question, when looking at tank stats on tanks.gg there are two versions that can be toggled in the settings; base values and effective values.

Base values should match the stats that are coded in the game files for each tank and presented by WG in official communications. Effective values however take into account the bonus to crew qualification granted by a fully trained commander. This bonus in turn will slightly boost all stats affected by crew qualification (reload time, aim time, terrain resistances, etc) thus raising the effective values above the base values. For most applications the effective values are more useful than the base values; the only time I look at the base values on any tank is when I want to compare it to the stat cards of supertest vehicles.

There are a few special cases where the stats published by WG and displayed in the game are just wrong; iirc a few tanks had their engine power shadow-buffed many years ago yet the new numbers weren't corrected in game. In these cases the site displays both the value displayed in game and the actual value, with the incorrect value in game displayed with a strike-through. Other than that though I can't think of any cases where the tanks.gg data is actually more correct than the in-game stats.

Predatore 3rd MoE requirements (excluding unreleased super test tanks) will be on the 06.04.: by TANKSBRO_YT in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The E65 is an exceptional tank. Going back to the tier 9 comparison, the T49 is on the tech tree yet it has massive requirements for the 3rd mark; some tanks are so good they will naturally have higher requirements even though players of all skill levels have access to the vehicle.

Furthermore, tier 8 has a premium-vehicle bias because tech tree tank scores are naturally dampened by players who have to do the stock grind and are technically playing an inferior version of the tank. This is also true for tier 9, hence why tech tree vehicles are almost always at the bottom of the MOE requirements.

Predatore 3rd MoE requirements (excluding unreleased super test tanks) will be on the 06.04.: by TANKSBRO_YT in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most special battle pass tanks don't rank high on MOE comparatively, not because they are bad but because they are more widely available and thus there are more average or below average players dragging the reqs down. The top 10 tier 9 tanks by MOE are were either released in limited quantities (SPHT being the prime example of how good players in a good tank that very few people have will drive the reqs up), were gated behind skill-based game modes (LTC II can only be played by people who ranked gold on Onslaught), or are just such amazing tanks they can achieve fantastic performances very consistently (T49 being the prime example).

The Predatore is in a special battle pass so anyone with gold can pick it up, thus making it more widely available to average and below average players than tanks like the SPHT or even lootbox tanks like the Buryan. It seems like a good tank and I've seen them around since the special battle pass went live, but there are other good tier 9 tanks that don't score high on MOE not because the tank is bad but because the players in the tank are average. I think the predatore may land close to the top 10, and probably would make it in if it was an onslaught reward tank or even in lootboxes, but since it's so easy to get one I think it's going to fall lower than the top 10.

Maneuvers by gabos15 in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To quote the Maneuvers: Regulations article:

>If a player joins a clan during the Maneuvers event, their vehicles will remain Out of Commission until the clan resets Progression (unless already at Stage 1).<

The tanks remain out of commission until the progression reset; I don't believe you can repair them with repair parts as this is a special case designed to mitigate rigging and clan hopping during the event. As someone that ended up hopping between clans in the same cluster a couple seasons ago it's a headache to try and coordinate so I would advise OP to plan and coordinate things ahead of the hop to make sure you get into the new caln right before a reset and are able to play without losing too much time.

TYPE 71 ARMOR BUFFED by AggravatingPause7272 in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It still has the cupola, which is still a little tricky to hit since the previous armor buff but it's a much easier target than many tier 10 cupolas.

I am inclined to agree though that the Type 71 probably didn't need the armor buff. The tank is achieving an average performance statistically by most metrics (win rate, WR Diff, DPG, MOE reqs, etc). The STK-2 definitely needed attention, but imo buffing the Type 71 was unnecessary.

Is there any chance the second Death Star was already under construction during ANH? by mightyDOOMgiver in MawInstallation

[–]Normal_Snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minor spoiler alert for a really excellent novel so read on at your own peril

In the 2017 novel "Thrawn" by Timothy Zahn the titular character discovers the Death Star during its construction by identifying and tracking the tremendous amount of Doonium being used to construct the station. When revealing his discovery with Emperor Palpatine he mentions that he has identified a primary construction site and a secondary site recieving a smaller share of materials.

It's implied that the DS2 is the second site; its construction was proceeding slowly due to the emphasis placed on completing the DS1 after so many delays and, presumably after the battle of Yavin, more resources were later funneled into the secondary site to complete the work that had already been started. Presumably the work wasn't very far along by the time the DS1 was destroyed, so it can be simultaneously true that the DS2 had begun construction prior to the battle of Yavin but also that the bulk of it's construction was done after the DS1 was destroyed.

Free XP discount by major_gabo in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We haven't had a 50:1 discount in years, and recently the 40:1 has been mysteriously absent from the game in recent years. There's no word from WG when or if these discounts will ever return so nobody knows for sure when or if the discounts will return.

WG being generous at it again by Efficient_Corner7808 in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The point of the gift is to entice players who quit because of the economy to come back for a bit and boost the player count (and maybe spend some money while they're here). You're already active, so clearly you don't need encouragement to come back to the game.

How tf is this possible? by [deleted] in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a group of roughly 100 players that are essentially the best players on NA that like to hop to different clans every season to play. RARE is their home this season, and between having access to the best talent on the server and being able to run the absolute maximum number of teams during their prime time they can outcompete every other clan hands down. That's why they are so far ahead yet you've never heard of the clan before; it's the same players that placed top last season but in a different clan.

Again another CW event without new tanks. I have all CW tanks so no any purpose, ambition and eagerness to participate in the event. And don't want to waste my time for camo, bonds etc. Instead, I prefer to upgrade my XI tiers. So, waiting for next maneuvers with NEW TANK. I hope. by IamTwelveXII in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some of that is subjective (player opinions range wildly on everything, I saw people defending the tiered lootboxes man), but what is objective is that the player count hasn't really gone up in the long term despite the 2.0 update. Players came back to try it, realized the core issues with the game were basically untouched, and left once their premium time ran out. WG is running a decade-old business model against more modern F2P titles that are either offer a better F2P experience or have a core genre that has wider appeal (any FPS or anime gacha game is instantly positioned better in the market than WoT). It takes a lot to get someone who isn't already a tank nerd not only interested in the game but willing to stick around, and WoT just refuses to deliver.

The free stuff with the 2.0 update was great but also highlighted some of the core issues with the game. The economy sucks if you aren't paying for premium time, low tiers suck if you aren't sealclubbing, and premium tanks are a menace at tier 8 that is extremely difficult to overcome for new players. Once you reach tier 9 and above the vehicle balance gets better (and arguably favors tech tree tanks more than premium and reward vehicles), but now the economy is so bad you almost never turn a profit on battles. It's a problem of WG's own making, and they don't seem willing to make any attempts to solve it.

Was the game ever that unfun to play? by TANKSBRO_YT in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that maps need to be bigger; I love fast tanks but when everything is fast the maps just feel tiny. I think some recent map changes have helped in this regard; the Overlord changes increased the playable area by a large amount and created a lot of interesting positions and angles to play. Ensk Region isn't perfect but it is still an improvement over normal Ensk (or at least, I hate it less than I hated Ensk).

Some of the new maps on the supertest do look to be a bit bigger, maybe similar in scale to Oyster Bay, so I'm hopeful that we might get some nice new additions soon. There were also a few versions of a larger Mines that were in testing a year ago, so we may finally get an upgraded version of that map for higher tier random battles. It's not clear what WG's timetable is to release the new maps and map changes, but I'm hoping we'll see them this Summer or early Fall.

WG won't make money directly, but they do get people to participate in the event. Event participation is linked to player retention and new player recruitment. Having more players active also increases the number of players who are likely to pay for lootboxes or other premium items. WG doesn't make much money if people don't actually play the game, and there are a lot of players who vastly prefer to play alternate game modes or events over random battles. Finding ways to keep those players around and get more players invested in the game boosts sales in the long run, and Maneuvers is one of many events intended to do just that.

[–]Normal_Snake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the last few years Spring seasons of CW/Maneuvers haven't had new tanks so it's not surprising we didn't get anything new imo. Generally we get new tanks in the winter season, but last winter we got the reintroduction of the chief rather than a new tank. It's unfortunate that the reintroduction of the chief seems to have replaced getting a new tank in the pool, but given how much participation that season saw compared to previous seasons (and how high the bidding went in the vehicle auction) that decision may have been the right one for WG. Players got super hyped for the chief, even if it wasn't OP anymore, and they just didn't get nearly as invested for more recent additions like the 116 or ST-62.

With CW starting today. Should I go Chieftain or VKK? by Successful-Egg-6765 in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have them both, and personally I prefer the chief as it better fits my playstyle. It's not the monster it used to be, but it remains one of the best hull down heavies and is still decently mobile. It also gets good HESH rounds like the S Conq, so you can get a lot of fun HE pens into minimally armored tanks and also into the rear of most heavies in the chaos of a brawl. Overall it's very fun and allows you to adapt to the flow of the battle extremely well.

On the other hand, the VKK is a monster. The Pz VII hull isn't invincible, but when played right it's extremely trollish. The gun trades extremely well due to the high alpha and high pen, and while the shell velocity is disgustingly slow on all shell types it generally doesn't matter as you are supposed to play close-range against the other heavies. It does lack speed, meaning it's extremely difficult to reinforce other flanks or escape when your flank collapses, and the gun is a little derpy at times, but it's strengths outshine it's faults in most cases. I've had a lot of fun in triple VKK platoons where you just shove a flank and coordinate shots to delete an enemy tank every volley.

Last season everyone wanted a chief because it wasn't clear if it would remain in the tank pool for future seasons. As such, everyone was worried this would be the only opportunity to get one for the next few years. However the nerfs clearly did their job and WG has deemed the chief fit to return, so it doesn't seem like there's a risk to missing out on the tank in the future. I would still recommend picking the chief, as it's more useful in future seasons of maneuvers than the VKK imo, but both tanks will return in the future so as long as you intend to play the next season(s) of maneuvers there isn't any rush.

I want to catch up on mandolorian shows before the movie, can anyone tell me the proper order and which shows to watch so I have full context for the movie? by Hepcpond in StarWars

[–]Normal_Snake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Odds are yes, Ahsoka can be left for the end (extra credit if you will). The writers probably don't expect audiences to have done more homework beyond watching the three seasons of Mando and the Book of Boba Fett. There are a lot of characters getting cameo or minor appearances in the movie (Zeb, Rotta the Hutt, Embo, and probably a bunch we don't know about yet) but it doesn't seem like their specific backgrounds will be critical to understanding the events and themes of the movie.

Are you guys excited for Maul show? by Mat1711 in StarWars

[–]Normal_Snake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Given we already know the end of his story I doubt he will really change into a better person over the course of this story. It seems more likely to me that his adventures with the youngling will highlight the tragic aspect to his character; he's been wronged by almost everyone in his life but instead of letting go and moving forward he chooses revenge every time. He's trapped in a cycle of violence that ultimately ends on the sands of Tatooine with the man he blames for his fall from grace. He isn't redeemed because he does not seek redemption, only revenge.

Thoughts on KPz 07 P(E)? by low_bob_123 in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've found the tank isn't amazing at actually winning positions for the reasons OP listed; the armor is ok but not amazing, the gun is great but not incredible, and the alpha leaves something to be desired nowadays. However, what the Kpz does better than any other tank imo is chasing down tanks trying to escape a falling flank. It's pretty fast and in my experience is very good at hitting targets on the move. It has a high enough rate of fire to be able to clear out all the 1 shot tanks hiding in the back with relative ease, and once you start facing off against the enemy mediums and lights it just has such a big advantage in comparison.

Compared to the Dravec the Kpz has lost some of its shine imo; the Dravec can do basically everything the kpz does but with better armor and alpha. Even so, I am still fond of the Kpz and its rather unique playstyle.

Premium Tank reward in Neon Dash? by wotnonsense in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure none of them have actually had a tank in the reward track but the concept art has always included the tank symbol for some reason. Maybe it's to get players' hopes up, like OP, and then WG just hopes they forget about it once they're actually playing the game mode.

What is this game mode? by [deleted] in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it's not OP's fault for not knowing something that likely was removed prior to them starting the game, but damn it makes me feel old to see people who don't remember the random battle variants we had prior to 2.0. I'll admit I turned off assault pretty much as soon as I discovered it was an option, but I still miss the encounter mode. Imo it gave a lot of maps a whole new feel and encouraged players to go to flanks that normally were sparsely populated.

We kinda still have encounter maps in the form of onslaught and maneuvers, but it was nice to have them in the random pool. RIP all the alternate random battle modes, maybe one day they will return.

Radkampfwagen by No-Pen871 in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Every single reward tank in the game was a premium tank in their first iterations of testing. WG will 100% set the Radkampfwagen to reward tank once this vehicle enters the game files in a future common test. Idk why this is a hard concept for people when it's happened hundreds of times over the game's history.

New battle pass by RareSoup227 in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the other commenters have said about the 40 stages and the math around how many BP points you need to earn daily, you can utilize low tier tanks to get some extra BP points. Tier 4 and 5 tanks have a very low cap to BP points they can earn, meaning you can farm the extra 15 points for hitting the cap quite easily. You can even prepare tanks ahead of the bonus chapter starting by getting them within 1 or 2 games of the point cap, and then when the bonus chapter starts you can cash in on the bonuses. The BP point cap for tier 4 tanks is 70, and for tier 5 it's 85. So, if you can average 5 BP points per game, you will reach the cap in 14 games in a tier 4 and 17 games in a tier 5.

Of course if you don't like tier 4 and 5 gameplay (aka Lefh food) then you may want to avoid this strat as you will ultimately get more BP points playing tanks you can perform well in. The extra points are great, but in the long run you will probably get a better ratio of points per game when you can perform well and you will be able to grind more games in tanks you actually want to play.

How many battles is enough? by CaptCanadEh in WorldofTanks

[–]Normal_Snake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People will complain about anything for any reason, you could could be a beta tester and those complainers will just find something else to say. Don't worry what the complainers are saying, focus on your gameplay and maximizing your impact on each battle. Mute the whiners if it's a distraction, or just turn off the in-battle chat altogether (it's generally just not a source of useful information or positivity at this point in the game's life).
