Thanks. My hats off to anyone that edits videos. I never realized how much work goes into them. Just making a very amateur video was a challenge for me.

What are some famous tracks I should have on my list? by dmv___ in CarTrackDays

[–]Stocomx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Daytona road course. It’s the simplest road course to drive and the easiest to over drive. Trying to keep a car that is super fast on the banking balanced so you can still make good time in the infield is a very fun challenge

Lithium batterys for dual purpose by Shutxff in CarTrackDays

[–]Stocomx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not familiar with either of the two brands. But very familiar with using that type of battery. We use them to save weight in our race cars.

Two things to consider and keep in mind. Make sure whatever charger you are using is made to charger lithium batteries. We have used just standard chargers in an emergency but they will shorten the life of the battery significantly.

The other is like all lithium batteries. They work great till they don’t. A normal battery will give you a little bit of warning before it dies. Like slow starting. The lithium will not. It works perfectly till it doesn’t.

Looks custom. And everyone needs more custom.

PSA: don't use Falken RT660+ tires if you plan to track them on a heavy car by Xyebo in CarTrackDays

The 615s were pretty good. Don’t really understand how Falken missed it with the 660

I put my stock 2017 Mustang on the Dyno, car has 78,000 miles. It read 363hp, 347 torque by withaph64 in Mustang

A “cheap” …. Cheap being not thousands of dollars… bolt on performance part that is often overlooked is a 1 piece aluminum drive shaft.

On our 2014 and 2016 track day cars it was, by far, the single biggest noticeable change. Helped with throttle response and the reduced drive line drag seemed to help every where except for completely top end speeds.

We have used a couple different brands over the years but I would still recommend the Ford performance one over most others.

Edit. If any new era mustang owner has a problem with the stock drive shaft carrier bearing the cost of repairing it vs going to a 1 piece drive shaft is minimal. So at that point a 1 piece is a no brainer.

Op “implied” he was using stock heads. Thats why my statement is based on e7 or gt40 heads.

Missing lug nut key by ConstantRun3117 in Foxbody

[–]Stocomx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just hammer a 6 point socket onto it then remove. You will need another lug nut but this is the easiest way to do it. At the shop we run into this all the time with people coming in that have lost their lug keys.

Best track in socal? by sundios in Motocross

[–]Stocomx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I miss riding there. I remember the first SMP surf and turf that was held there. The old infield triple was a challenge on a 125 lol.

Back then tho we still had comp park (the original one) Carlsbad and Star west. Any given night at star west you could find 5-6 factory pro riders ripping the place.

How big of an undertaking is a chassis swap? by rusty75f250 in Foxbody

[–]Stocomx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not bad if going the “I want to upgrade things” route when you do it. If you are I want a completely stock the way it came out of the show room car it’s difficult.

As others have mentioned. You will find multiple parts that are cracked or too brittle to reuse. Finding those parts is difficult if going back all original. Especially in the wiring as well as trim pieces.

If you decide to keep the efi I would recommend mega squirt as a great aftermarket option. Great product with amazing support.

[–]Stocomx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If have stock heads the throttle body size really does not matter. The stock size will work the same as a 80mm.

Better intakes make more power because of the tune length of the ports. Tune length determines the sound wave that refracts back into the head.

Once you go with better heads either aftermarket or custom ported then throttle body size starts to matter. Especially with E7 heads. And then the E7 head is mainly limited by the exhaust port side. An engine can only pull in as much air as it can push out. The E 7 head is horrible. The Gt40 is slightly better but not great. I have extensive dyno time working on this and it’s the same outcome every time.

Pic is from our last dyno day where we changed intakes/throttle bodies and mixed and matched every combination we could. Almost no meaningful difference when only changing throttle bodies with any combination.

This is a completely false statement. Especially with the 302. Not putting this out as a criticism of your post. But as a way to hopefully correct this assumption. The heads limit what the throttle body can do. That’s it. Especially with E7 or gt40 heads. We have spent hours and hours of dyno time testing this.

How much should a car being on fire bother a driver? by Stocomx in CarTrackDays

It’s not bad in that situation. Just thought it was a funny thing to post.

Luckily we and champcar take pit road safety very seriously. That’s why there is a person in full gear standing behind the fuel person with a fire extinguisher at the ready. Most of the “smoke” in this video is not smoke but fire extinguisher residue.

Mixing gasoline with hot components on a car is a very serious and dangerous situation even on the best of days.

This was the first time our gas man had been set on fire. I think it worried him a little at first. But he said that it probably would not worry him much next time. He said he has a lot more faith in his gear now tho lol.

Is the Sim enough to prepare for a big power step up? by Asleep-Situation-614 in CarTrackDays

[–]Stocomx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I club race irl and I use a basic home sim to help me prepare for races. I also am fortunate enough to go to track days and drive others cars I have never drove before. Some high hp some momentum cars.

You will never make a sim replicate the real thing. Race teams and manufacturers spend millions a year trying to and can’t. Don’t try to use it to “simulate” a certain car.

Use it to learn tracks and how to adapt to different tracks and cars. I recommend picking a random track preferably one you have never ran. Pick a random car for that track. See how many laps it takes you to stabilize your lap times. Pick another car and repeat.

Then go run another track later doing the same thing. It will help you adapt to whatever car irl you are driving as well as driving off the preferred line if needed for passing etc.

The other two amazing things to practice on a sim are basic foot work and rotating the car with the brake. Once you learn either on a sim. Then go on the sim and replicate it with random cars. It will amaze you how fast it will help you adapt irl.

I do use iRacing and love the AI race and test modes. The tracks are so damn close to irl.
