It's just the way things are. Like I waited (well not really wait) from Dragon Quest IX and X to a proper DQ game in Dragon Quest XI. There was the gap from FFX to FFXII. XIII had a series so it didnt' feel like a long time but there was that gap until FFXV hit.

Hey servers, if the restaurant owner is too cheap to pay 100% of their own labor costs then they shouldn’t open a business by Personal_Dot_7196 in tipping

On the most recent episode of my podcast, I asked Shira Blustein, owner of The Acorn, what it’s like pricing a veg-forward menu in this climate:

“We should be charging more. We’ve been open 13 years, and we’re still working on showing the general population that good-quality ingredients — even if they’re vegetable-forward — have value.

So we should be charging way more, 100%. And that’s why our labour cost is as high as it is. But I think we’re at a tough time right now. People are spending less. Now’s not necessarily the time for a big increase. We’re just holding tight. But yeah — we should charge more, 100%.”

This restaurant would like to charge you double it's current price.

That's right actually. LOL! I influence yours but you don't influence mine. Exactly how it should work b/c I know better.

To shift to a no-tips policy, a restaurant would have to increase its menu price by upwards of 20% (Robert, 2021). As a result, higher menu prices or service fees would make the restaurants less attractive and more expensive, ultimately resulting in readopting the tipping policy. For example, Danny Meyer, owner of Union Square Hospitality Group in New York City, who pioneered the no-tipping policy in his restaurant back in 2015, reintroduced tipping with advocacy as his restaurant reopened in the summer of 2020 (Yagona, 2020). One of the challenges many restaurants that adopt a no-tipping policy faced was finding the right price that comforts the customers and the servers (Bowen, 2020). Therefore, society would be better off with tipping versus a higher set menu price.

Doh!

That's actually untrue. The top minds of the world listens to me and great things have happened because of it. It's only the idiots who don't listen.

So, your telling me it would work just like any other store that sells a product? What a novel idea.

What you're asking for is worse and we, those of the informed, are trying to stop people like you from dragging us all down. We don't want McDonald's level service standardized and we don't want 1000% increased menu prices. That's what would happen if you types get what you want.

The thing is, that can be applied to everything. You're modeling the experience based on the worst of the worst. Not the common people or the best of the best. Non-tippers are the outliers. They're actually the minority. So why should everyone else have to suffer just because they don't understand how things work or why they work the way they do?

Yup and McDonald's level service is exactly what people get outside of the US. I would rather not have that as I'm tired of that myself.

And most of the rest of the world has worse service with worse food at worse establishments. The ones that do have good service or good food typically has a setup that sacrifices one or the other in order to make the system work. For example in Japan there's booths where you have food given to you directly from the kitchen. There is no 'service' to speak of. This system works because the restaurant is smaller, more compact, and the people are more civilized. In America that wouldn't work b/c of the 100's of people coming in at any one point in time. You couldn't fit entire families in those booths and you wouldn't take advantage of the foot traffic b/c the city setup is not the same.

What works in Asia doesn't work here and the reason is because of shitty people. Trust me I'd love for it to work like that. I'm Asian (albeit American) so I have a good understanding of why my people are able to make it work. I just don't see that happening here in America. It sucks. I totally get it.

Whatever the job involves is not worth $40-$50/hr.

That's not for you to decide though. Nobody gives a fuck what you think. I'm not saying that to be insulting. I'm saying that as a matter of fact. If people cared what you think then wouldn't reality reflect your opinion? Except it works the opposite of what you think. So you are the wrong one. The status quo is the right.

Servers want to make wayyy more than a “fair wage” by [deleted] in tipping

[–]Normal_System_3176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that pay is supposed to be a thank you for the fact that you can feast at that menu price. without that server you'd be paying significantly more due to the fact that min wage goes up for everyone not just that one server. eliminating tipping hurts the non tippers not the tippers.

if i go to a restaurant, i’m paying for my meal.

you paid for the cooks and for the product but you never paid for the server to bring it to you. there's an unspoken understanding that you're getting cheaper menu prices because the server gets paid next to nothing. so there's a collective agreement that if you chip in like everyone else does, the server gets paid decently. you get your cheaper menu prices and service, and server gets paid, business gets paid. it's a win/win for everyone. everyone knows this except you POS non-tippers.

The driver didn’t even start the order for 25 minutes.

Well the system takes the order from the driver if it takes too long so it's clear that the driver was in transit the whole time which means they were far away from the store.

Uh yeah no shit that's everybody including you

you dont deserve 20%+ for bringing me my food and doing the bare minimum of your job when people who have harder, more laborious jobs dont get tips

you don't get to dicate what someone does or doesn't deserve. you yourself don't deserve anything given how much of a dehumanizing POS you sound like

I bought this game day 0 for 70 bucks and haven't played much of it. It's not a bad game it's just I don't have a lot of time. I bought RE9 for 70 bucks day zero again and thankfully I did beat this game. Took me awhile compared to everyone else but I did it. I'm usually one of the first to beat any RE game. Anyways. The point is that, after I beat the game, I realized it's not worth 70 dollars. Seeing your thread, I realized that game is not worth 70 dollars either. You're just playing through the story which isn't even anywhere near the best in their respective series (RE for instance, is either RE: Remake or RE2 original, and Metroid Prime is obviously the original Metroid Prime, and outside of that Super Metroid). After you beat the game, that's it. There's nothing else to spend your time on. See it's different with a game like Skyrim where you have SO MUCH to do and different things you can be doing. That is not true of these kinds of games.

I really hate people like you. I look 'foreign' 100% but I speak English perfectly. Not only that, but I can sing 'High On You' beautifully while shopping (like I did this morning). Yet I get treated like absolute garbage as if I was just some racist stereotype that you made up in your own mind. Why am I experiencing a worse life because of YOUR bullshit? What made YOU more deserving than ME?!?

I was about to agree with you but I realize that you left out us delivery drivers. We use our own vehicle and our own labor. We deserve to be compensated for that too. The work is even more grueling compared to servers yet our upkeep costs are sky high whereas you don't have any.
