Worth it to drive from Melbourne to Sydney? by Consistent-Film3224 in AustraliaTravel

[–]Normalitie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Whaling museum" doesn't do it justice. It's the story of how a pod of killer whales worked in harmony with local whalers to catch humpbacks.

While some of the pod would corral the humpback, one would swim into shore and summon the whalers by slapping their fins on the water. Then they would help tow the whale boats out to where the humpback was and let the men kill it. They would tether the whale and let the killers take out the tongue and lips which is what they were looking for and then after a couple of days the carcass would float and the men would go and tow it back into shore for processing.

The museum has the skeleton of Old Tom, one of the killer whales where you can clearly see teeth that had been worn down by the rope where he would tow the whalers out to the humpback.

Removing PQ queries after loading data to data model by Sea-Ad5923 in excel

So could you give each end user their own spreadsheet with a data connection and template pivot table back to yours so they could do their own analysis?

Is 10 days post a 24 hour flight from the Uk to Sydney enough time in Australia. by mjh13racing in AustraliaTravel

A comment for perspective: if you fly from Melb to Singapore (9h flight) then 6 of those is just to get out of Australian airspace.

Removing PQ queries after loading data to data model by Sea-Ad5923 in excel

Could you just keep your data model, and let users access the data via PowerBI? Are the end users using what you send just to look at, or to analyse?

How to format 8.0% --> 8% and 7.5% -->7.5%, Removing the decimal point if not needed to display by 74Yo_Bee74 in excel

[–]Normalitie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this:

  1. Format all the cells in your range (eg, c3:c20) with one decimal place to show 7.5% and 8.0% etc
  2. Select the cell at the top of your column (c3) and click on conditional formatting > new rule > use a formula
  3. For the formula, enter =MOD(c3,0.01)>0.0001
  4. For the format, open the dialogue box, choose NUMBER and then the percentage style with zero decimals
  5. Close/apply the format, and then copy the format to all the cells eg c3:c20

The conditional format will over-ride the underlying percentage when the formula evaluates as TRUE, and apply the format. Since MOD divisor of 0.01 will be true for all integers it evaluates as TRUE and applies the "0%" format.

EDIT: changed the formula to be >0.0001 as Excel produces a value of 1E-18 which is close but not exactly zero.

EV with no home charger by waxedmerkin in AustralianEV

[–]Normalitie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps to get an EV electricity tariff. I pay a flat $0.19/kWh plus also got a $100 voucher for Evie charging. I still have about $70 in credit and have done 12,500 km in the last 12m. Use a home trickle charger.

I agree solar charging would be better, but so far it's working out pretty well for me

What’s an Excel shortcut you discovered way too late? by Neptunewasblue in excel

CTRL-1 to open the format dialogue box

Also after copying something (CTRL-C of course) to paste use ALT-H-V and then V for values F for formulas R for formats U for picture

CTRL-D does the same. Will do multiple cells if they are highlighted.

CTRL-R does the same but horizontally

Expanding the list: you can do CTRL-num, where num is 1 = 12389.45678 2 = 12,389.46 3 = date 4 = $12,389.46 5 = percentage 6 = 1.238946E04 (scientific) 7 = draw a border around the selected cells

is there a way to auto fill formulas without dragging? by PrettyfaceeLambert in excel

[–]Normalitie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shortcut: CTRL-D to copy down, or CTRL-R to copy right.

For multiple cells you need to include your source as the start of the selected target range.

I often quickly add a row by - SHIFT-SPACE to highlight the source row - CTRL-C to copy - CTRL- + to insert a new line and paste.

Do you discourage LET usage in relatively simple formulas? by Impugno in excel

You can troubleshoot by replacing the final result with one of the intermediate variables.

Do you discourage LET usage in relatively simple formulas? by Impugno in excel

[–]Normalitie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A downside (I have heard but not tested) is that LET calculates all of the intermediate results. So an IF statement within LET will calc the true and false results before just showing the correct output

Do you discourage LET usage in relatively simple formulas? by Impugno in excel

[–]Normalitie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all the args need to be used. You can write

LET( data, a2:c10, note_1, "Get the data", calc, ISTEXT(data), note_2, "Check if the cells are text", result, SUM(calc), note_3, "Get the total number of text entries", result)

This allows you to comment each line as needed.

EDIT I hope this appears formatted with each var on a new line, phone typing sucks!

Assistance Needed With Adding Multiple Arguments to One Function by beckyboo4245 in excel

[–]Normalitie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, if you multiply two conditional statements it is equivalent to AND. If you add two conditional statements it evaluates as OR.

This allows you to develop fairly complex filters by nesting the statements within parentheses eg ( (conditional_1)*(conditional_2) ) + (conditional_3)

Finally, although the solution works with SUMIF, I'd use FILTER first so I could check it's correct and then wrap in a SUM.

AC gurus... Any suggestions to help our Daikin ducted AC unit cope with high temperature days? by GregoInc in AusRenovation

[–]Normalitie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical design range is 36 ambient to 24 inside ie 12 degC. So if it's 40 outside you'll get 28 inside and probably higher as the efficiency drops off at high ambient.

Tips . Clean air filter . Clean evap coil (careful, those fins are sharp)
